‘Birth of a Nation’ Poster Shows Nate Parker in American Flag Noose

Fox Searchlight has debuted a powerful poster for Nate Parker’s “Birth of a Nation” with the actor’s Nat Turner character wearing an American flag noose.

The image was first posted by Jay Z’s Tidal streaming service.

Parker produced and directed “Birth of a Nation” from his own script, which centers on the 1831 slave rebellion led by Turner. The previous poster also used an American flag with images of members of the revolt.

“Birth of a Nation” debuted at Sundance in January and sold for $17.5 million to Searchlight. It’s expected to be an awards-season contender with an Oct. 7 opening.

Justin Chang gave the film a rave in his review for Variety:  “‘The Birth of a Nation’ exists to provoke a serious debate about the necessity and limitations of empathy, the morality of retaliatory violence, and the ongoing black struggle for justice and equality in this country. »

The Birth Of A Nation Trailer Teases Nate Parker’s Tour-De-Force

22 June 2016 10:08 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Sundance darling The Birth of a Nation has fast become one of the early dark horses going into this year’s awards circuit – and it’s little wonder why.

Set against the antebellum South, Nate Parker’s creative tour-de-force – Parker wrote, directed, produced and starred in the inspired race drama – revolves around the true story of one Nat Turner, the slave and preacher who famously staged one of the most important uprisings in American history in the Virginia of 1830.

Indeed, early buzz for The Birth of a Nation on the festival circuit ensured Parker’s passion project became the highest sale in Sundance history, and you can get a gist of the drama that awaits in October via the movie’s official synopsis. Taking point as Nat Turner, Parker leads the charge as a “literate slave and preacher, whose financially strained owner, Samuel Turner, accepts an offer to use Nat »

Must Watch: Full Theatrical Trailer for Nate Parker's 'Birth of a Nation'

21 June 2016 1:57 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

"To watch a strong man broken down is a terrible thing." Fox Searchlight has debuted the full theatrical trailer for Nate Parker's The Birth of a Nation, the award-winning film from Sundance this year about a slave uprising. The first trailer was powerful, but this one is even better. The cast includes Aunjanue Ellis, Armie Hammer, Jackie Earle Haley, Gabrielle Union, Mark Boone Junior, Penelope Ann Miller and Aja Naomi King. I raved about this film at Sundance, and I'm waiting for it to connect with audiences worldwide when it opens. The song they're using for these trailers is lovely, and it adds an extra amount of emotional power. It's one of the best films this year and I recommend catching this in theaters. Here's the full theatrical trailer for Nate Parker's The Birth of a Nation, from Fox Searchlight's YouTube: Set against the antebellum South, The Birth »

While Free State of Jones is getting a prime summer release date this week, another slave drama, Nate Parker‘s writing-directing debut The Birth of a Nation, will arrive in the heat of the fall awards season. Picked up by Fox Searchlight for a record $17.5 million, the Sundance Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award winner tells the true story of Nat Turner’s slave rebellion. They’ve now released the emotional and fiery full-length trailer, along with a fantastic poster.

I said in my review, “Directed, written, produced by, and starring Nate Parker, the Nat Turner biopic The Birth of a Nation is an unflinching and hopeful call to action where the helmer’s passion can be felt in every frame. By nodding to D. W. Griffith’s controversial, formally groundbreaking 1915 film, Parker is forging a new cinematic history for one of America’s most shameful eras. What’s lacking in aesthetic cohesion, »

Marilyn Manson is best known as the frontman of the Marilyn Manson band, whose music garnered much controversy from politicians and the public for their nihilistic lyrics, graphic imagery, and provocative statements. Manson got tied up in the aftermath of the deadly Columbine shooting when he was blamed by politicians and the media for inciting the violence with his music. Manson has appeared in many films including David Lynch’s “Lost Highway,” Michael Moore’s “Bowling For Columbine,” in which he discussed the media’s interest in scapegoating rather than focusing on broader societal issues, and a recurring role on FX’s “Sons of Anarchy.”

Mark Boone Junior is best known for his role on “Sons of Anarchy,” along with his performances in Christopher Nolan’s “Memento” and “Batman Begins,” Terrence Malick’s “The Thin Red Line,” and David Fincher’s “Seven.” He will soon appear in Nate Parker’s “The Birth of a Nation,” about Nat Turner, the leader of a slave rebellion in Southampton County, Virginia in 1831.

Let Me Make You a Martyr” will premiere at Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal next month. Manson will be in attendance.
