THR is reporting that Hinterland’s acclaimed survival video game The Long Dark[/link] is set for a big screen adaptation courtesy of Jeremy Bolt, producer of the Resident Evil franchise.

“My goal with Hinterland — starting with T​he Long Dark​ — has always been to create original entertainment properties that could span multiple mediums, exploiting the storytelling potential of each form,” said Raphael van Lierop, founder and creative director at Hinterland. “Partnering with Jeremy on this project is the first step in achieving that vision of true cross-platform storytelling in the world of T​he Long Dark.​”

Constantin Drives Into Tentpoles With ‘Monster Hunter,’ ‘Resident Evil’ Reboot (Exclusive)

Constantin Film, producer of the $1.2 billion-grossing “Resident Evil” franchise, is driving into tentpole movie production with a “Resident Evil” reboot and “Monster Hunter.”

As with “Resident Evil,” “Monster Hunter” is based on a video game property from Japan’s Capcom. It will be directed by Paul W. S. Anderson and produced by Jeremy Bolt, the producer-director team behind “Resident Evil.” Constantin aims to bring “Monster Hunter” onto the market in late 2017 or early 2018, Constantin Film’s Martin Moszkowicz said at Cannes.

Details of the “Resident Evil” reboot are currently under wraps.

Also in the works is “Polar,” an adaptation of Victor Santos’ action noir graphic novels, to be directed by Sweden’s Jonas Akerlund, who is best known for music videos for Madonna, Beyonce, Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga.

‘Resident Evil’ Franchise Set for a Reboot (Exclusive)

The “Resident Evil” movie franchise has not ended after all.

Details such as the reboot director, stars, and how the reboot would fit into the franchise narrative are being kept under wraps. But Martin Moszkowicz, chairman of the board at Constantin Film, did confirm to Variety at the Cannes Film Festival that a reboot is in development at the giant German production company, which owns rights to the franchise and has produced all of its installments.

The franchise was set to end with this year’s “Resident Evil: The Final Chapter,” which grossed $312 million worldwide after its January release, including an eye-popping $160 million in China alone.  Sony helped sow the seeds of success by securing a release for “Resident Evil: Afterlife” and “Resident Evil: Extinction” in China.

Anderson’s Resident Evil, which was perfectly timed to coincide with the home entertainment release of the last installment in the franchise, The Final Chapter. Before the packed event got underway, Daily Dead had the chance to chat briefly with both Anderson, as well as producer Jeremy Bolt, who has collaborated with the director on numerous projects over the last few decades.

The duo talked about being a part of the Resident Evil cinematic universe for about the last 15 years, and they also discussed another project that’s celebrating an anniversary in 2017, the horror/sci-fi epic Event Horizon, which has gained traction among genre fans since it was first released in 1997.
