The North American poster for The Darkest Hour has been released and undoubtedly plays on its Christmas season release with the giant headline ‘Survive The Holidays’. Although it’s not the best debut poster we’ve seen, there are elements of interest as the smoke funnels are full of orange electric, an invisible alien force maybe?

The Darkest Hour finds five young people who are stranded in Moscow and fighting for their existence after an Alien attack. It’s written by newcomer Jon Spaihts who is also part of the Prometheus, Ridley Scott re-launch and Leslie Bohem who recently found fame creating Taken. It stars Emile Hirsch (Into The Wild), Rachel Taylor (Transformers), Olivia Thirlby (Juno), Joel Kinnaman (The Killing: Us) and Max Minghella (The Social Network) and is due for release January 13th.

Thor 2′s Brian Kirk To Direct Tom Cruise Rodeo Picture Paper Wings

22 August 2011 9:05 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Game of Thrones director Brian Kirk was surprisingly hired (though we are hearing the deal isn’t quite sealed yet… but it will be soon) to direct Thor 2 at Marvel a few weeks back but news today suggests he may be trying to get another film off the ground before he throws the hammer back at Chris Hemsworth.

Variety reports that Kirk has entered talks with Sony to direct Paper Wings, a Oscar baiting rodeo romance movie that Tom Cruise has been developing for years as a potential starrer. Cruise has long wanted to play the leading role of the rodeo champ who falls in love with an aspiring country singer, which at one time had the attachment of Reese Witherspoon as an obvious attempt to re-strike the magic from her Oscar winning turn in Walk the Line – though we hear she has long moved on from the project. »

Tom Cruise & Potential ‘Thor 2′ Director Circle ‘Paper Wings’

22 August 2011 8:00 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

It looks like Brian Kirk is still negotiating to helm Thor 2 for Marvel. However, he’s also lining up to direct Paper Wings, a long-in-development project that has attracted the interest of Tom Cruise.

Since Cruise won’t have an opening in his work schedule until the late part of 2012, it’s unlikely that Kirk would begin work on the latter project before the Thor sequel. He could followup the comic book flick about a formerly cocky superhero by directing a character drama about… a formerly cocky cowboy.

Variety says that Paper Wings revolves around an aging bull riding champion who romances a country singer on the rise. Leslie Bohem (Daylight, Dante’s Peak, The Alamo) scripted the project all the way back in 2005. It almost began production last year, with Cruise and Reese ...

Possible ‘Thor 2′ Director Brian Kirk Circling Tom Cruise Project ‘Paper Wings’

22 August 2011 6:00 AM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

[1] Brian Kirk hasn't totally sealed the deal for Thor 2 just yet, but he's eyeing another new project that could come afterward. Kirk has entered talks to direct a rodeo romance titled Paper Wings, which Tom Cruise is developing and will probably star in. Writer Leslie Bohem (Dante's Peak) and producer Marty Bowen initially developed the idea in 2005, and set the film up at New Line in 2006, but progress has been slow-going since then. The talks with Kirk are the first new development since a table read [2] last year with potential stars Cruise, Will Smith, Anna Kendrick, and others. Read more after the jump. Written by Bohem, the script centers around a rodeo star who falls in love with an aspiring country singer. No actors are officially signed on at this point, but it seems very likely that Cruise will star as the rodeo rider. Reese Witherspoon was previously attached to play the singer, »

‘The Darkest Hour’ Concept Art Revealed

9 August 2011 7:30 AM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

[1] In September of2010, I was lucky enough to visit the set of The Darkest Hour in Moscow Russia. I will be posting updates and interviews from the set visit in the coming months. Summit Entertainment has provided the group of visitors an exclusive look at concept art of the locations from the film. The Timur Bekmambetov-produced alien invasion movie titled The Darkest Hour has been described as a 28 Days Later-type thriller following a group of American tourists visiting Moscow Russia when an alien invasion occurs. The image above shows the iconic Red Square, "the scene of desolation in the post-alien invasion world of The Darkest Hour." The film stars Emile Hirsch (Speed Racer, Into the Wild), Olivia Thirlby (Juno, The Wackness), and Max Minghella (Bee Season, How to Lose Friends & Alienate People, Agora, The Social Network). Chris Gorak directed the film, with a script by M.T. Ahern and Leslie Bohem with revisions by Gorak, »

The Darkest Hours Shows Menacing Aliens in this First Trailer

3 August 2011 1:53 PM, PDT | 28 Days Later Analysis | See recent 28 Days Later Analysis news »

Summit Entertainment will distribute The Darkest Hour in theatres later this year (December 23rd). This is a film that, as part of a group, seems to be selling xenophobia to theatre goers. Gone are the days of a friendly E.T.: The Extraterrestrial (1983). Instead, film producers are more interested in creating menacing alien invaders e.g. Skyline, Battle: Los Angeles. Apparently fear sells better than friendliness, as ticket sales tell us.

Generalizations aside, the first trailer for The Darkest Hour deals with ball lightning and the aforementioned alien invaders. These other worldly beings are invisible, except when dismantling atoms via lightning strike. Have a look at the sci-fi thrills inside and remember to greet any real aliens with a gun, rather than an open hand.

The synopsis for The Darkest Hour is here:

"The Darkest Hour is the story of five young people who find themselves stranded in Moscow, »

First Real Steel TV Spot and Japanese Trailer

22 June 2011 10:55 AM, PDT | Filmofilia | See recent Filmofilia news »

DreamWorks today unveiled its new TV Spot and Japanese trailer for the Hugh Jackman-starring, Shawn Levy-directed Real Steel.

Based on the 1956 short story Steel by Richard Matheson, and adapted for a big screen from a script by Leslie Bohem and John Gatins, this one definitely shows us great boxing skills of robots.

Hugh Jackman as Charlie Kenton in Real Steel

The film focuses on Hugh Jackman as a former boxer who turned to Robot Boxing when the sport replaced Mma as the world’s most popular sport that involves punching. Now, he’s washed up twice over and trying to make a come back while reconnecting with his son. That last element is nowhere to be found in this trailer, but the hype sure is.

Dakota Goyo in Real Steel

The film also stars Dakota Goyo, Evangeline Lilly, Kevin Durand and Anthony Mackie.

We hope you enjoy these »
