The Spy Next Door is one of Jackie Chan’s latest Kung Fu master-meets-ordinary-nice-guy movies. The fact that Jackie Chan’s stunts are amazing is hardly up for debate; the quickness and precision of his moves, regardless of how many takes he needs, are typically the central focus of any his movies. The unfortunate part of The Spy Next Door is that the actual fighting he does is pretty sparse. So we’re left with a pretty bland story, one that focuses on his relationship with his girlfriend — who also is his next door neighbor — and her children, and how he is able to break down their tough, children exteriors to get on their good sides.
Jackie plays Bob Ho, a kind gentleman who lives the life of an international spy working for the CIA. This double life he leads is unbeknownst to his girlfriend Gillian, and before he pops the question, »

Chicago – “The Spy Next Door” pairs a man who can’t speak English with three kids who can’t act. They’re forced to recite dialogue credited to three writers who are incapable of writing a single line of wit or originality. Worst of all, the film is directed by a man whose last halfway decent family flick was 1992’s “Beethoven.” Rarely has a mainstream release looked so much like Amateur Hour.
Over the last decade or so, director Brian Levant has specialized in making some of the most crass, annoying and audience-insulting films ever to be aimed at an audience under the age of 13 (they include “Jingle All the Way,” “Snow Dogs,” and the appropriately titled “Are We There Yet?”). The main reason I fell for “Beethoven” upon its initial release was because: a.) I was the age of its intended target audience, and b.) the film starred the woefully underrated Charles Grodin, »

The Los Angeles Mission will make a difference for the homeless this Easter – with a little help from celebrity friends.
The Mission will serve 3,000 meals, provide Easter baskets with toys for children, and wash the feet of the homeless on Good Friday. Why feet washing? Easter Week foot washing is a Christian tradition – memorializing that Jesus washed the feet of his disciples the night before he was crucified. Many who are on the streets seldom have normal loving human contact – and this outreach of food, foot washing with podiatric care and new shoes is a way of inviting them to learn about the Mission’s services, including its long term program of restoration – in order to get off the streets permanently. The Los Angeles Christian Health Center uses this opportunity to address the foot problems suffered by many on the streets of Skid Row.
