Synopsis:

While subjected to the horrors of World War II Germany, young Liesel finds solace by stealing books and sharing them with others. In the basement of her home, a Jewish refugee is being sheltered by her adoptive parents.

The Book Thief, an adaptation of the hugely popular book, is the story of a young German girl growing up during the Second World War. The girl, Liesel Meminger (Sophie Nélisse), discovers a love of books thanks to the kindly Hans (Geoffrey Rush, The King’s Speech) who adopts her.

While the idea of a family drama film set during a serious event like a World War is not impossible (see the brilliant Goodnight Mister Tom), the balance has to be very precise and it is no small task. Sadly, »

While it didn't win, The Book Thief was up for best score at this year's Academy Awards. The drama is heading to Blu-ray and DVD tomorrow, Tuesday, March 11, and to celebrate, we have a new featurette from the special features which takes a look at how John Williams came to compose the music for this WWII based tale.

A young girl living with foster parents in Nazi Germany begins collecting forbidden books and sharing them with the Jewish refugee hiding in her home in this war drama.

The Book Thief Blu-ray and DVD Arrive March 11th

Following its critically-acclaimed theatrical release, Fox Home Entertainment is releasing The Book Thief on Blu-ray and DVD March 25. Fans will be able to purchase the World War II drama on Digital HD two weeks early, starting on February 25. Sophie N&#233lisse stars as a young woman who is adopted by a German couple (Geoffrey Rush and Emily Watson) during World War II, as she befriends a young Jewish runaway (Ben Schnetzer).
