Film Review: ‘Kepler’s Dream’

Film Review: ‘Kepler’s Dream’
There’s plenty of intrigue on the New Mexico ranch our heroine is shunted off to in “Kepler’s Dream,” but little suspense is wrung from it in this tepid family drama adapted from a well-reviewed Ya novel by Juliet Bell. Opening in a dozen markets nationwide simultaneous with a VOD launch, the film is more likely to access viewers in home formats. But even fans of the book are likely to find this translation flat.

When her divorced mother (Kelly Lynch) requires a lengthy hospital stay to undergo a procedure that represents her last hope of beating advanced leukemia, 11-year-old Ella (Isabella Blake-Thomas) must live elsewhere. Her father (Sean Patrick Flanery), who runs a fishing-expedition business, claims he’s too busy to take on the responsibility, but then he’s always been a deadbeat dad. With no other options, Ella is dumped in the lap of a grandmother she’s never met, one her father

Film Review: ‘Greater’

Film Review: ‘Greater’
When it comes to the all-time greatest walk-on (i.e. non-scholarship) college football player, Arkansas offensive lineman Brandon Burlsworth easily bests Notre Dame’s more famous Daniel “Rudy” Ruettiger. In terms of their biopics, however, “Greater” — an account of Burlsworth’s inspiring rise and tragic demise — pales in comparison to the latter’s beloved “Rudy.” An insistent, clunky sermon about triumph through faith, David Hunt’s film is so determined to turn its subject into a Christ-like saint that it loses any sense of him as an actual flesh-and-blood man, the result being a third-string sports saga only apt to play to its devout target audience.

Burlsworth was a heavyset Arkansas kid who, without any prior commitment from the nationally ranked team, fulfilled his childhood dream of becoming an Arkansas Razorbacks member in 1994 — a feat that was then surpassed when he became an all-American offensive lineman during his senior year,

Body of Proof Review: What's Left Behind

  • TVfanatic
"Daddy Issues" brought Body of Proof full circle, as Megan Hunt finally got answers concerning her father's death... and made some decisions about her future.

There was plenty to enjoy in this hour. Megan was finally able to exhume her father's remains, only to find they weren't there. That was the moment I knew that whatever happened to David Hunt, his wife wasn't involved.

I had always wondered why Joan fought so vehemently to keep the details surrounding her husband's death a secret. But I suppose it was simply the guil of a grieving widow who believed she should have seen the signs in her supposedly suicidal husband.

When Joan heard that his body had gone missing, she was truly shocked and finally understood that Megan's suspicions were correct. It was quite the turn around from the anger she'd been exuding over Megan's investigation.

Tommy certainly stepped up his game.

Netflix unlikely to bid for Premier League TV rights

Netflix unlikely to bid for Premier League TV rights
Netflix has said that it is unlikely to bid for Premier League football television rights when they become available. The Us subscription streaming giant yesterday launched in the UK and Ireland, offering subscribers a library of TV shows and films on multiple connected devices. In the face of competition from the likes of Amazon's LoveFilm and Sky, Netflix is under pressure to secure exclusive content to differentiate itself to customers. There are few more coveted TV rights in the UK than the Premier League, which helped transform Rupert Murdoch's Sky into a pay-tv powerhouse in the 1990s. Us technology giants Google and Apple are rumoured to be interested in entering the billion dollar bidding for the rights when they come up for tender this year, as a way to bolster their content streaming services. However, Netflix's chief product officer David Hunt said (more)

By Matthew Cormier Now that we know who is contending for a pre-nomination slot at the Daytime Emmy Awards, it’s time to take a closer look at each of the acting categories. The key to winning a Daytime Emmy is episode selection. To stand out amongst this group of industry legends, an actor will need to submit a tape that displays enough range and impact to make voters take notice. Good submissions are usually self-contained episodes showing a clear beginning, middle and end to a character’s emotional arc.

Best Actor has the potential to be a very competitive race as every show has to decide between multiple veteran performers. The frontrunners among these contenders are discussed below.
