In the past four years, 17-year old actress Saoirse Ronan has enjoyed quite an interesting round of films from Atonement to Hanna, and even a great performance in the The Lovely Bones, even if the film itself left something to be desired. Currently Ronan is shooting Byzantium and will also star in the adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's The Host, as well as the teenage assassin flick Violet & Daisy with Alexis Bledel. Now Variety has word that the actress has also signed for How I Live Now, an indie drama from Kevin Macdonald (The Last King of Scotland, The Eagle) based on Meg Rosoff's 2004 novel of the same name. Strangely enough, Ronan is also playing a character named Daisy in this adaptation of the story about a teenage girl from New York City who travels to England to spend the summer with family in the English countryside. Zach Gilford joins Schwarzenegger in ‘The Last Stand’

4 October 2011 4:02 AM, PDT | Blogomatic3000 | See recent Blogomatic3000 news »

It’s been known for some time now that actor-turned-governor Arnold Schwarzenegger would make his return to the movies in Kim Ji-Woon’s The Last Stand. The film, which is a Western described (awesomely) as a cross between Die Hard and High Noon, will be the English-language debut for the I Saw The Devil director.

Arnie will play a border sheriff who is tasked with stopping an escaped drug dealer from passing the border into Mexico. Schwarzenegger’s character will also apparently have a naive young deputy under his command and, according to Deadline, actor Zach Gilford, whose best known in the States for his role in the TV series Friday Night Lights, but who had a small, but key, role as the best-friend-come-love-interest of Alexis Bledel in Post Grad, will be filling that slot.

Sounds like The Last Stand may be going down the Die Hard 4 sidekick route to me… »

Gilmour Girls actress Alexis Bledel will be in Times Square, NYC, today for a very special event with Save the Children.

On September 19, 2011, Save the Children, Ngo partners, and hundreds of people will gather in Times Square to watch a human mosaic create an image of a health worker and child. Save the Children is calling for millions more life-saving health workers in the poorest countries as the Un General Assembly begins. They are promoting the Health Workers Count campaign.

Health workers are everyday heroes – they save lives. 350 million children never see a health worker in their lives so millions of children die every year from easily treatable conditions such as such as pneumonia and diarrhoea. Save the Children and other organizations are working together to change this.

Tiff 2011: Violet & Daisy Review

17 September 2011 8:52 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

The concept of an adorable female assassin is nothing new.  I'm pretty sure that at least half of all anime is based on this premise.  The appeal is that you juxtapose wide-eyed innocence and blood-drenched experience.  However, it's an idea that's been done to near-death (see: anime, +50%) and I was curious to see how Oscar-winning screenwriter Geoffrey Fletcher (Precious) would handle adorable-assassins in his directorial debut Violet & Daisy.  Fletcher has delivered a script was tons of potential for a fun action-comedy that doesn't blow the genre apart but manages to do a solid job of staying playful and upbeat with the talented Saoirse Ronan and James Gandolfini selling the dramatic aspects of the story.  Unfortunately, Fletcher is constantly hamstrung by his lack of experience, budgetary constraints, and Alexis Bledel's lackluster performance. Fletcher gets Violet & Daisy off on the right foot by establishing its heightened reality as the title characters »

Saoirse Ronan and Alexis Bledel Are Just As Confused by Their New Film as You Are

16 September 2011 3:00 PM, PDT | Movieline | See recent Movieline news »

The synopsis of Precious screenwriter Geoffrey Fletcher's feature directing debut Violet and Daisy sounds straightforward enough: "A brutal fable about a pair of teenage assassins, played by Saoirse Ronan and Alexis Bledel, who believe they've landed a straightforward assignment but soon find themselves thrown off their game when their latest target isn't who they expected." Evidently, however, that's not quite what its audience -- or even its stars themselves, for that matter -- seemed to take away from its Toronto Film Festival premiere. »
