Hulu’s Best TV Shows About Women Beyond ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ That You Can Stream Right Now

19 May 2017 4:46 PM, PDT | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

If you haven’t taken advantage of all that Hulu has to offer lately besides “The Handmaid’s Tale” – which everybody should really, really watch right now – then you’re missing out.

“The Handmaid’s Tale’ has been a groundbreaking series for the streaming service, thanks to its foreboding story about a near future in which a portion of the United States has been turned into a theocracy. This new world of Gilead subjugates women and makes the fertile ones become breeders for high-ranking officials. Moving performances by Elisabeth Moss, Samira Wiley, Yvonne Strahovski, O-t Fagbenle and Alexis Bledel have made this series a must-watch.

Not only does Hulu have strong original programming like “The Handmaid’s Tale,” but it is one of the best places to watch shows that are currently on TV now, which makes cord-cutting that much easier. It also has an impressive catalog of past shows that are well worth revisiting. »

(The location of the nuptials was particularly special, as it was where Morelli popped the question in October.)

Married life is great!” gushed Wiley, 30. “I’m really enjoying it.”

Wondering What Happens to Ofglen in The Handmaid's Tale Book?

18 May 2017 12:30 PM, PDT | POPSUGAR | See recent BuzzSugar news »

With a few exceptions, the book is always better than the movie. But TV is changing that with a new type of adaptation: cinema-quality series that allow writers the time and space needed to develop fully realized characters. When screenwriters condense a novel into a two-hour film, something will be left behind, but with 10 TV episodes (and subsequent seasons), there's an opportunity to not only do the original story justice, but to innovate. This can be seen in the new TV series The Handmaid's Tale, based on Margaret Atwood's novel by the same name. In the series, the character Ofglen (played by Alexis Bledel) has a backstory that's not written into the book. The book's omissions make her more mysterious, leaving readers to make their own conclusions, while the additions from the series make us feel more connected to her struggle. The Book In Atwood's novel, we only encounter »

Channel 4 Acquires MGM’s ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ for the U.K.

Channel 4 has acquired U.K. rights to “The Handmaid’s Tale” from MGM Television, the British broadcaster said Tuesday. The acclaimed U.S. drama, starring Elisabeth Moss and Joseph Fiennes, will air on the channel later this month.

The 10-part drama, which Variety called “an upsetting, immersive, and horrifyingly beautiful vision of a too-close dystopian world,” is based on the novel by Margaret Atwood. It tells the story of life in a dystopian, totalitarian society in a former part of the U.S. where the fundamentalist regime treats women as property of the state.

“‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ is a chilling and frighteningly topical exploration of a world where women are subjugated,” said Jay Hunt, chief creative officer for Channel 4. “I’m delighted that Channel 4 viewers will get to see this critically acclaimed take on a classic novel.”

We Really Need to Talk About How Good Alexis Bledel Is in The Handmaid's Tale

We need to talk about The Handmaid's Tale, specifically Alexis Bledel. In the fifth episode of the Hulu drama Bledel's Ofglen returns from her punishment at the hands of Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd). When viewers last saw Ofglen—or Ofsteven now—she watched her female lover die and woke up in a surgical suite after undergoing a genital mutilation, a procedure that would still allow her to have sex and children, but not enjoy any of her lesbian urges. Her punishment should've been death, but instead it seemed to be far worse for the character. "We helped her, we saved her. We had a doctor take care of the problem. It's such a small problem, truth be told," Commander Waterford (Joseph »
