This stimulating film about the radical performance artist Chris Burden, who once got himself shot through the arm for a piece, is a thorough exploration of his work and reputation
Chris Burden is the conceptual artist who started his career in the 70s as the dangerous situationist radical who didn’t want art to be composed of objects to be bought and sold. He wanted a pure essence, a form that might come into being purely ephemerally, mysteriously, in performance art that challenged our sense of ourselves. Notoriously, he devised a performance piece that involved him getting shot through the arm with a real gun. The press called him the “Evel Knievel of modern art” – I kept thinking he was the David Blaine of modern art, or the Hunter S Thompson of modern art or even at his worst moments – and very occasionally – the Charles Manson of modern art, such »

Not that this is a surprise but Tom Brady has become one of the most prolific social media personalities. Of all of the professional athletes in the world, Brady’s posts on Facebook and Instagram are always something worth watching. You’d figure a guy that works this hard to be the best quarterback of all-time would put in the same kind of effort and precision in other walks of life. I think it’s evident that he does. Yesterday Brady posted another gem to his Instagram account. I’m not sure where this video was taken but it looks like it might be

Welcome back to the Weekend Warrior, your weekly look at the new movies hitting theaters this weekend, as well as other cool events and things to check out.
This Past Weekend:
The Lego Batman Movie won the weekend as expected, but not with nearly as much money as I had predicted, not besting the opening of The Lego Movie as expected, but instead ending up with a reasonable and not so bad $53 million. Fifty Shades Darker proved that the audience for movies based on the popular books was still great enough for it to win Friday with $21 million (to Lego Batman’s $15 million) and end up second for the weekend with a strong $46.6 million. That was still almost $40 million less than the opening of the previous movie Fifty Shades of Grey, but the sequel also didn’t have the benefits of Valentine’s Day and a four-day holiday. Coming in »

While the feature films of Harmony Korine have caused plenty of provocation on their own (“Gummo,” “Trash Humpers,” “Spring Breakers,” etc.) his predilection for mischief, particularly early in his career, saw the creation of some projects that just never saw the light of day. Perhaps most infamous of them all is the unfinished “Fight Harm,” which featured magician David Blaine filming Korine as he got into real life fights with random strangers.

David Blaine is known for his death defying stunts — including being buried alive for a week or frozen in ice for three days — but this one hit a little too close for comfort.
The magician, 43, performed a bullet catching trick live at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas in November, but it wasn’t until his show Beyond Magic aired last night on ABC that he revealed that the stunt had gone seriously wrong.
Blaine was supposed to pull a string to fire a rifle and the bullet was supposed to be caught by a metal cup in his mouth. »

Needless to say: kids, don’t try this at home. Street magician David Blaine accidentally shot himself in the throat, when he was really just trying to shoot himself in the mouth. Let us explain. Blaine’s “Beyond Magic” aired on British terrestrial digital television channel E4 last night, when a classic bullet-catching trick gone horribly wrong horrified a whole new TV audience. Today, the Internet is going bananas over the blooper. Blaine’s lone rifle shot was supposed to be nabbed by a metal cup in his mouth. Unfortunately, the cup slipped off the grooves that attached it to a special gum shield, »

2017 is all about family — and staying active! — for Madonna.
The 58-year-old superstar and mother of four took to Instagram to share a snap of herself with her kids, posing for the camera while on a ski vacation in Switzerland.
“Starting 2017 with The 4 things that I love the most!” Madonna captioned the shot of herself with sons David Banda, 11, and Rocco John, 16, and daughters Mercy James, 10, and Lourdes “Lola” Leon, 20. The family is all smiles as the Swiss Alps can be seen in the background.
