Jack Black Calls Out ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ for Stealing From ‘School of Rock’

There is an established trend in the film industry to use an iconic song as a backing track to a climactic sequence in a movie. This was exactly what the producers of ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ did when they used ‘Immigrant Song’ performed by Led Zeppelin as the music for the final battle in the film. However, one actor has taken issue with the sequence. Jack Black, a comedy actor, recently posted on social media with comments that disagreed with the use of this track on the God of Thunder’s recent film. The reason he is so against the use of this

Chris Hemsworth Hilariously Responds to Jack Black's 'Thor' Battle of the Jams Challenge

Chris Hemsworth Hilariously Responds to Jack Black's 'Thor' Battle of the Jams Challenge
It's Rock God vs. Thunder God!

On Saturday, School of Rock star Jack Black -- who's also one half of the band Tenacious D -- called out Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth, by way of Thor: Ragnarok director Taiki Waititi's Twitter. The playful beef stems from the the use of Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song" in the movie. Black sang the classic rock song in School of Rock, and joked that the filmmakers stole the idea for the Marvel film.

"You totally poached our jam," Black says in the video on Waititi's page.

Black then issued a musical throwdown. "This is a challenge. I'm challenging you to a battle. A battle of the jams!" he declares in the video.

The Cinematic Kinship of Richard Linklater and Hal Ashby

The latest stage of Richard Linklater’s freewheeling career takes him back to the 1970s with Last Flag Flying, a 44-years-belated sequel to Hal Ashby’s masterpiece The Last Detail. It’s difficult to call much of anything from Linklater a surprise at this point: he seems as comfortable at the helm of a studio comedy powered by Jack Black’s manic energy as he does a decade-plus-spanning epic about the journey from childhood to adolescence. Last Flag Flying may not stand as one of Linklater’s defining works, but it does signal a kinship with the New Hollywood director, whose run from 1970-1979 was as inspired as any other from that era — before he got burned (and burned-out) and died too young at the age of 59. Ashby and Linklater have a shared ability to make a film built on discursive moments flow narratively, an affinity for counterculture movements or

Jack Black Not Returning in Goosebumps 2?

Jack Black Not Returning in Goosebumps 2?
Goosebumps 2 just got a little more interesting. A new report states that Jack Black, who starred in the first Goosebumps as creator R.L. Stine, may not return for the sequel. Sony has brought on writer Rob Lieber (Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day) to pen a new version of the script, which reportedly won't feature Black's character. This is just one of several versions of the Goosebumps 2 script that Sony is considering.

At the present time, there's no actual deal in place for Jack Black to return in Goosebumps 2 as R.L. Stine, but sources say it's possible he could return, assuming his schedule allows for it. But this new script being worked on by Rob Lieber may be for reasons that go beyond scheduling. Jack Black is said to make $6 to $8 million per movie these days. Since Sony is looking to bring down the budget for

Jack Black’s Goosebumps 2 return in doubt

Goosebumps was something of a modest hit when it was released back in 2015, earning $150m off a $50m budget, and starring a pre-13 Reasons Why Dylan Minnette, alongside Jack Black as Goosebumps author R.L. Stine. Based on Scholastic’s worldwide best-selling book series, which has over 400 million copies of the 62 book series in print, the studio are clearly keen to mine this popular source.

However, Variety are now reporting that Goosebumps 2 might be moving forward without Jack Black, having asked the screenwriter of the forthcoming Peter Rabbit film, Rob Lieber, to work on his treatment, one that reportedly doesn’t include the Stine character, who was memorably embodied by the School of Rock actor.

New ‘Goosebumps 2’ Writer Hired, Jack Black May Not Return
Goosebumps may not have been the best family horror film, but it was surprisingly fun, and apparently a big enough hit to warrant a sequel. Sony has just hired a new writer to pen the latest adventure set in the wild world of R.L. Stine, but the new script comes with a caveat: Jack Black, […]

Goosebumps 2 may lose Jack Black

Chris Longo Nov 3, 2017

The Goosebumps sequel has a new writer - but might need a new star, too...

Goosebumps 2 has a new screenwriter, but it may be losing its star. According to Variety, Rob Lieber (whose credits include Disney's Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day) will pen the script for the Goosebumps sequel. His treatment, according to the trade, is believed to not involve Goosebumps star Jack Black.

Back in May, it was reported that Goosebumps 2 was moving ahead with the title Goosebumps: Horrorland with a January 2018 release (that release has since been put back to September 2018). At the time, it looked like Darren Lemke would reprise his screenwriting duties. Now that Lieber is tasked with penning the script, we’ll have to see if the title of the film changes, and what Black’s involvement is.

Goosebumps, based on R.L. Stine's children's horror series of the same name,

‘Goosebumps 2’ May Not Bring Back Jack Black

  • Collider.com
Goosebumps was an unexpected delight, blending family-fun scares into an action adventure plot. For those who haven’t seen it yet, the story involves a group of teenagers accidentally unleashing all the monsters from the books of reclusive author R.L. Stine (Jack Black), and needing to recapture them. However, now it looks like Sony is trying to keep costs on the sequel low by possibly cutting Black. According to Variety, the studio has hired Rob Lieber (Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day) to pen the latest draft of the screenplay, and that draft doesn’…
