On Sunday, The Young and the Restless will officially celebrate 50 years on CBS. For star Lauralee Bell, it’s more than just a celebration; it’s a tribute to the work of her dad William J. Bell, who created the No. 1 daytime drama with his wife, Lee, in 1973.
It’s also a heady reminder that Bell — along with her brother Bradley, who’s the head writer on The Bold and the Beautiful — is one of daytime’s most important stewards. “We’re representing dad in such big way,” said Bell of her father, who died in 2005. Her mom passed in 2020. “I was getting ready to do an interview the other day and out of nowhere this huge, overwhelming feeling came over me. I wondered, did dad ever consider that he wouldn’t be here at one point and did it make him feel a little bit better knowing that Brad and I were all in?...

Hey, "Young And The Restless" fans. We are back at you again with another "Young And The Restless" update during these terrible times of the pandemic. As most of you know, "The Young And The Restless" production is currently shut down. So, CBS is forced to have to air repeat/classic episodes of The Young And The Restless. Thanks to the folks over at the soapoperanetwork.com, we do have the repeat episode that CBS will be airing tomorrow, April 29, 2020. They will be re-airing the episode that aired way, way back on July 6, 2004. That's right, guys. CBS is taking you back to the early 2000s yet again. Their official description for this episode reads like this, "Katherine’s family walks out on her. As she falls asleep on the couch, Katherine is visited by “ghosts” from the past, including Phillip III (Thom Bierdz) and Rex Sterling (Quinn Redeker).

Birthday shoutouts go to Natalie Cole, who is 63, Kathy Najimy, who is 56, and Rick Astley is 47. Rosanne Cash has always been a wonderful and underrated artist (she gave us one of the great songs of the 80's with "Seven Year Ache"), and now there's reason to love her even more.In ratings news, Smash returned last night, and well ... maybe it'll be on one of my "gone too soon" TV lists someday. ABC Family has picked up the Jennifer Lopez produced series The Fosters, about a multi-ethnic family with two moms. The Boy Scouts have decided that the gay issue has too much "complexity" to decide anything right now.Below you can see Tyler Posey in a clip from tonight's Workaholics on Comedy Central. His language at the end is bleeped out ... but you can tell what's he saying. Potty Mouth.

Speaker Boehner has appointed National Organization for Marriage founder and author of the anti-gay Manhattan Declaration Robert George to the Religious Freedom Commission, making him a government employee for the next two years.
Cutie (and equality advocate) Josh Hutcherson has been named Breakthrough Performer of the Year by CinemaCon. That's a bit of an understatement after The Hunger Games.

Governor Andrew Cuomo will sign the bill and it will go into effect in 30 days. Here's a sample of the reactions below:

In regards to the "delusional" allegations made by former actor Thom Bierdz, I offer the following sworn statement.
Sometime in May 2010 I contacted Thom Bierdz via Facebook about booking him to be a guest for launch party of my debut novel, Delusions of Grandeur which was published on May 24, 2011. I flew Thom Bierdz to Miami, put him up in a suite at the Five Star Mondrian Hotel and made him guest of honor at a lavish dinner for 12 with some of Miami's A-List. Shortly thereafter, because I was moving to Los Angeles to develop my writing career, Thom Bierdz offered me to be a guest in his apartment for a few months while I discovered the city and found my way around. In Parts One and Two of our interview with Thom Bierdz, the acclaimed actor discussed the real-life tragedies described in his best-selling biography Forgiving Troy, his return to The Young And The Restless this week (from March 15-19th), and the power and healing of forgiving others. In Part Three, we discuss the pressures of being a closeted actor in Hollywood, his "audacity" to express himself, plus his limited return to Y&R in 2009.
We Love Soaps TV: When did you decide to be completely out about your sexuality?
Thom Bierdz: Even as a kid I knew I would be. I had a conversation with God at about age eighteen. I said, “God I know I’m going to be famous and I know I’m going to be gay. Is that alright?” I always knew that at some point I would be out. It was around 2000 that I came out.

In this final part he shares his inner conflicts between expressing himself as an actor as an artist, and opens up about the importance of cosmetic surgery. What misinformation does he want to clear up? Find out below!
We Love Soaps TV: The career as an artist and as an actor can often ride on two separate tracks. From the way you’ve described it to me, it sounds like those tracks can conflict.

Thom Bierdz: Growing up when I did as a gay man, when the entire world doesn’t want you and thinks you're disgusting, you know what it’s like to be subjected to that. HollywoodNews.com: Restless: Thom Bierdz talks candidly about cosmetic surgery he recently had and what he’s had done in the past in the new issue of Soap Opera Weekly.
The actor, who plays Phillip Chancellor III on The Young and the Restless, recently underwent liposuction to remove fat from the neck and upper stomach area.
Here’s what led to the lipo: “On the Sept. 13, 2010 episode of Y&R, my character, Phillip, consoled Nina in their diseased son’s bedroom. I remember the assistant director telling me not to look down and I almost rolled my eyes to Tricia Cast (Nina) about it. I had no idea how bad I looked in that position because I was not able to see myself at this angle. … When I saw myself on TV, I was quite horrified and amused to see that my angular face was a complete round, fat mass...

Out triple threat Michael Patrick King, who brought us the Sex and the City films is turning his attention to a concept built around the behind the scenes action at a home shopping network. Attached to star are Meryl Streep, Sandra Bullock and Oprah Winfrey. I’m guessing it’s something like Soapdish maybe. With that kind of pedigree, it’s either going to be amazing, or a total disaster. Nothing in between is possible.
The largest newspaper in New Hampshire is refusing to publish a wedding announcement for a gay couple, despite the fact that gay marriage is legal in the state. Their logic sounds like it was written by Maggie Gallagher, saying they’re not anti-gay, but are against redefining marriage, and that the people didn’t get to vote to make gay marriage legal, so they don’t recognize it.

At the request of his 11-year-old nephew, Tim McGraw crashed Grassland Middle School’s assembly to tell the kids to be kind to each other and to stand up when someone else gets bullied. He mentioned the sad suicide of Asher Brown by name, and said he had been bullied to death. I think it’s pretty great to see another country star stepping forward like this.

Plus the real Mario Lopez, Julia Roberts makes Ryan Murphy richer, and No Ordinary Family gets sexier.
The Young & the Restless wouldn’t let Thom Bierdz have a boyfriend, but they have let Lauren have a designer. I don’t know if the version of Jeremy Scott on the show is real or fictional, but it sure is flashy. A green sequined matador jacket for a business meeting? What is he going to wear for evening wear?
Maple Bacon Coffee.
True Blood has been spotted filming with panthers. This fits the books, but Alan Ball has said in the past he intends to deviate from the books on the matter of panthers, so I’m not sure where he’s going with it.

Plus recasting Clue, the Gay Best Friend goes to high school, and just what are these M&Ms up to?
I’m going to go ahead and guess that Thom Bierdz has no plans to revive Phillip Chancellor III on The Young and the Restless, based on the song he wrote calling the show out for all the heterosexual ho’ing around and the failure of the show to let him even have a date. I guess we shouldn't tell him about Rafe's single-episode boyfriend?
Over at Vanity Fair, the hysterically cynical Brett Burk promises that if a Supreme Court headed by Justice Roberts overturns the Defense of Marriage Act, he’ll marry his longtime boyfriend on the Tilt-a-Whirl at Six Flags. At least it’s not the Mad Hatter’s Tea Cups at Disney, or rice wouldn’t be the only thing I’d be throwing.
So evidently, since...

hollywoodnews.com: Actor and author (and painter!) Thom Bierdz has written a song today about Phillip Chancellor III not being able to find gay love on The Young and the Restless.
Says Thom: “It is a creative expression, not intended in any way to put down the show. Art, and music, is a way for me to channel my personal feelings….Who wants to make a video?”

Fantasy fans everywhere shed a tear this weekend as Guillermo del Toro announced he couldn't wait around any longer for MGM to figure out their finances, so he’s quitting The Hobbit after investing two years in creature creation and developing scripts with Peter Jackson on the epic story from J.R.R. Tolkien.
Dennis Hopper passed away Saturday from complications due to prostate cancer at the age of 74.
Reports are coming out that GQ has named Prince Harry the world’s coolest man. My issue with this is that when I think of “coolest man” my mind goes to a classic Frank Sinatra, not a smokin’ hot ginger with a habit of drunkenly licking his mates after snorting vodka.
While you all thought I was finished mocking Lost now that it was over,...

The Smurfs just got gayer. While we knew Neil Patrick Harris was playing the main human, we now discover out actor Alan Cumming is going to voice Gutsy Smurf. Sorry, boss, you’re going to be giving a lot of attention to this movie. Jonathan Winters will be reprising his role as Papa Smurf.

It turns out male voices are much more difficult for computers to understand than female voices, which explains why I can never check the balance on my credit card with those voice recognition systems. It probably doesn’t help that men are much more likely to add “errr...

Have our Genoa City gays run out of gas, or get run off the road?
Genoa City has denied a permit for a Gay Pride parade it seems. Or at least that's what a reported quote from Scott Hammer, co-head writer of The Young and The Restless says. Daytime Royalty is reporting that in the latest Soap Opera Weekly the lesser-known writer for Y&R says:
“At this point, we are not doing a gay story, and we never actually were doing a gay story. What we were playing with Rafe was the lengths to which Adam will go to accomplish his goals. And what we were really seeing was that he would stop at nothing. And, at this point, I don't see a future for Rafe and Adam."
Do we need to lower the rainbow flag to half-mast?
Now that’s pretty much a direct contradiction to his partner...
