Tim Howard is the new U.S. Secretary of Defense, according to Wikipedia

2 July 2014 6:18 AM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

After his miraculous game Tuesday, U.S. Men’s National Team goalkeeper Tim Howard quickly became a folk hero.

Case in point: Someone edited Wikipedia’s entry on the United States Secretary of Defense to say this:

Someone changed the Us Secretary of Defence on Wikipedia to Tim Howard. Fantastic. pic.twitter.com/haPrHWPLjx

— Cam (@_camwba) July 1, 2014

The entry was quickly changed back by someone with no sense of true patriotism. Still, it’s one of many online celebrations of Howard, who made 16 saves (a record number) despite Team USA’s loss. A petition has sprung up on the White House’s website, »

‘The Daily Show’ Gives Tips on Avoiding College Sexual Assault (Video)

26 June 2014 7:25 AM, PDT | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

The culture of sexual assault is endemic to college campuses, and for years, university administrations have looked the other way when women were brave enough to speak out. So, perfect fodder for a late night comedy show! In fact, the situation has gotten so bad — and activists have gotten so organized — that President Obama's Department of Education was moved to propose a rule that would require colleges that received federal funds to report statistics for incidents of dating violence, domestic violence and stalking. Dana Carvey Performs Modern-Day Johnny Carson Monologue

Dana Carvey stopped by The Late Show on Wednesday night to regale the world — okay, mainly to impress Dave — with his famous Johnny Carson impression. Admittedly, Carvey doing Carson on late night feels very 1992, but at least he attempted to keep things current by throwing in the 2014 cultural-reference hat-trick of Justin Bieber, Joe Biden, and Rob Ford. John Green's Enthusiastic Fan Base Bodes Well for 'The Fault in Our Stars'

3 June 2014 8:54 AM, PDT | Thompson on Hollywood | See recent Thompson on Hollywood news »

John Green's fans love him.  As in, Love him.  The "Fault in Our Stars" scribe has nearly 2.5 million(!) followers on Twitter and his vlogbrothers YouTube videos routinely rack up 500,000 to a million hits. Which means that the Friday release of the film version of "The Fault in Our Stars," based on Green's novel about two teenagers who meet in a cancer support group and fall in love, is going to be (in the inimitable words of Joe Biden) a Bfd. In fact, according to Fandango, "Fault" has already broken the company's record to become the biggest pre-selling love story ticket ever.  (The previous titleholder was Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams's 2012 "The Vow.")  Fandango also notes that "Fault" is the most-anticipated film of this weekend (with "Edge of Tomorrow" and "Maleficent" close behind).   Apparently, the ticket sales company also performed a survey of over 1,000 users who bought advance seats for "Fault in Our Stars, »

President Obama announced that Jay Carney is leaving his post as the public face of the administration, and will be succeeded by Josh Earnest as press secretary.

Carney told reporters in the White House briefing room that there is no date yet for his departure, but that he is “excited by some of the possibilities.”

Obama said in making the announcement that “Jay has been one of my closest friends and he’s a great press secretary, and a great adviser. He’s has good judgment, he’s got good temperament and he’s got a good heart.”

Carney came from Time magazine’s Washington bureau when he joined the administration in 2009, serving first as director of communications for Vice President Joseph Biden and later for the White House after Robert Gibbs stepped down in 2011.

His relationship with the press has at times been contentious, particularly over the issue of access to Obama. »

"I am inviting you so far in advance because I'm sure many 17-year-old girls send you prom invitations, and I had to beat them to it," Maselli wrote in the letter, according to the Hartford Courant. David O. Russell, Brian Grazer on Tackling Stigma of Mental Illness

8 May 2014 12:49 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

When it comes to the issues of and surrounding mental illness, David O. Russell, showrunner Jason Katims, Netflix executive Ted Sarandos and producer Brian Grazer universally agreed that the best way to overcome the attached stigma is to talk about it, particularly onscreen. The four entertainment heavyweights convened Thursday at the Paley Center for Media for the “A Leading Role: How Film and TV Can Change the Lives of Children” panel.

Each of the men know someone close to the issue, whether it’s Russell’s son or Katims’ son, both of which have Asperger’s, or even have a personal connection, with Grazer’s dyslexia. Together, they emphasized the importance of broadcasting these issues via their respective modes of storytelling.

The foursome concurred that one of the fastest ways to overcome any stigma is to make it a part of everyday vernacular, something Russell did with “Silver Linings Playbook, »

Julia Louis-Dreyfus teamed up with Vice President Joe Biden to create a short Veep inspired video, which was used to introduce President Barack Obama at the White House Correspondents Dinner.

In the video, Louis-Dreyfus, appearing as her Veep character, a fictional Vice President with Presidential aspirations, Selina Meyer, decided to skip the White House Correspondents Dinner with Biden and go on a secret tour of the West Wing instead.

The funny video also featured cameos from First Lady Michelle Obama, who gave them a lecture on eating right, Nancy Pelosi, who ran into the Veeps while getting “Gavel Time” tattooed on her forearm, and House Speaker John Boehner, who skipped the “snorespondents dinner” to watch a Panda eat bamboo on a television in his office.
