Notorious Boss Talks Jake and Julia's Finale 'Moment,' Reveals Twisted Plans for Potential Season 2

8 December 2016 8:00 PM, PST | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

Spoiler alert: This article contains major reveals from the season finale of Notorious. Unlike that headstrong Julia George, you might want to proceed with caution.

Thursday’s Notorious season finale ended on a surprisingly high note, with Jake & Co. liberating Julia from El Toro and returning to Los Angeles in one piece — until the episode’s final moments, when we learned that Maya Hart has (presumably) committed suicide.

Notorious fans were rewarded for their patience on Thursday with an answer to the question plaguing them since the pilot: Who really killed Sarah Keaton?

As some fans guessed, it was indeed Sarah’s brother Alan — though they never could have guessed that he was also the father of her child, the result of a horrific (not to mention incestuous) sexual assault.

“It wasn’t just to shock viewers,” series creator Josh Berman tells TVLine of the morbid reveal. “It felt like the story was grounded, and we believe the twist makes sense. It’s dark, »

Notorious: Cancelled Soon? ABC Cuts Episode Order

25 October 2016 4:45 PM, PDT | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

ABC has cut the Notorious TV show's production order from 13 episodes to 10. Deadline reports this is not an "outright cancellation," since the Alphabet Network plans to air all ten episodes. Maybe that seems like a good sign to hopeful fans, but it is not. Trimming the production order is the classic first step, in the peter-out approach to cancelling TV shows.Written by Josh Berman and Allie Hagan, Notorious is based on the lives of cable news producer Wendy Walker and defense attorney Mark Geragos. The legal and media drama stars Piper Perabo, Daniel Sunjata, Kate Jennings Grant, Aimee Teegarden, and J. August Richards. Walker and Geragos executive produce.Read More… »

‘Notorious’: After 32 Years at CNN, Producer Wendy Walker Finally Gets to Make Up the News

22 September 2016 10:26 AM, PDT | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

You couldn’t script some of the things Wendy Walker experienced as a live news producer at CNN. But now, the new ABC drama “Notorious” aims to do just that.

The series, which launches Thursday night, stars Piper Perabo as a TV news producer who develops a friendship and alliance with a superstar defense attorney (Daniel Sunjata). The show is inspired by Walker’s lengthy CNN career and her pal, real-life defense attorney Mark Geragos.

Walker admits she was taken aback at first of how her “Notorious” character handled things (like, say, having sex in her office right before the live telecast). But she soon adjusted to the world of dramatized television.

The veteran news producer spent 32 years at CNN (including 18 of those as executive producer of “Larry King Live”), focusing on breaking news and other live coverage. »

Notorious Review – TV- ABC Aims To Throw The Whole Well At You

22 September 2016 9:38 AM, PDT | AreYouScreening.com | See recent AreYouScreening news »

As the television world exists now, one of the main pushes we see from every network is an effort to sub-brand itself as having a “kind of show.” That’s a slightly convoluted way of saying that the networks think fans of one of their shows look for a similar “feel” from the next show. If a new show were thrown at you, they want you to be able to guess who is going to air it.

With that in mind, there’s an extent to which it’s hard to blame ABC for Notorious. It had to seem like a good Shondaland fit, and it looks decent on paper. You do you ABC.

If you throw in Josh Berman (Bones, Drop Dead Diva, The Blacklist) as creator, so much the better.

The trouble is that the world of laughable melodrama, and/or purposeful guilty pleasures that are overwrought with contrivance as a writing style, »

Notorious Season 1 Review

20 September 2016 12:30 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

One episode was provided prior to broadcast.

According to movies and TV, at least, sex and journalism go hand in hand. It’s a recognizable stereotype—pop culture frequents the archetypical hard-hitting reporter who boinks their way to one big scoop after another—but it goes completely against the basic ethical principles to which real life journalists must hold themselves. Sure, a dedicated journo often needs to be pushy to get a tough source to crack, but it’s high crime to sleep one’s way through the red tape, even if it helps bring truths to the public.

ABC’s Notorious builds its entire plot on illicit relationships between the media and their subjects. There isn’t a single character in this show that takes the adage “don’t sleep where you work” to heart, but that’s actually what makes the show great.

TV Review: ABC’s ‘Notorious’ and ‘Conviction’

9 September 2016 6:22 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

It’s remarkable how interchangeable “Notorious” and “Conviction” are. Hayley Atwell is in one, and Piper Perabo leads the other, but you’d be forgiven for confusing the lesser details, like which one is a take on Larry King or has a presidential campaign subplot. Both are steamy procedurals that combine legal thriller with media circus, playing up high-profile clients, sensational crimes, and the sexy people involved. Both are led by beautiful white women, making the most of their business formal wardrobes in expensive high heels and blazers. Both women have smoldering sexual tension with a man — the second-billed actor — that crosses both personal and professional boundaries, while also throwing off sexual tension that tries very hard to light the screen on fire (and occasionally succeeds).

And, most importantly, both read as messy, incomplete dramas that appear to be blatant attempts to rework the “Scandal” template with a few different bells and whistles. The »

Showrunners for New TV Season Remain Mostly White and Male

8 June 2016 10:05 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Despite the success of series like “Black-ish,” “Empire,” and “Fresh Off the Boat,” the broadcast networks’ push for diversity hit a stumbling block with the rollout of the new fall lineup. A Variety investigation into new scripted shows for the 2016-17 season reveals that 90% of showrunners are white, and almost 80% are male.

This is based on information provided by the five broadcast networks, which gave Variety the names of the showrunners of their new scripted programs (a total of 50 across 38 new series). Variety independently confirmed the race and gender of each, via multiple sources. All names and data used for this story is available below. (Showrunner designations were not yet available for four series — two at NBC and two at ABC — and information on those programs was not included in the statistical analysis of the new season.)
