New York — Sting performed in honor of Elton John, Billy Joel sang snippets of Foreigner's hits when introducing the band and Smokey Robinson debuted part of a new song he wrote about Berry Gordy.

The 44th annual Songwriters Hall of Fame ceremony was full of star power that included Alison Krauss, Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, Nickelback, Petula Clark, Wiz Khalifa, Jordin Sparks and a video message from Bill Clinton.

Tyler, Perry, Mick Jones and Lou Gramm of Foreigner, Holly Knight, Jd Souther and Tony Hatch were inducted Thursday into the Songwriters Hall 2013 class in New York City.

John and writing partner Bernie Taupin received the Johnny Mercer award, and Sting kicked off the night with a performance of "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting." Sting also called John and Taupin "my two heroes."

John, who was inducted into the Songwriters Hall in 1992, said songwriting is often taken for granted. »

Man Who Made Your Favorite Songs Reveals His Secrets

24 May 2013 9:28 AM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Buoyed by his recent work with Daft Punk and made all the better by his charming disposition, legendary producer and pioneering artist Giorgio Moroder is experiencing quite a career revival.

Since appearing on "Random Access Memories" in "Giorgio By Moroder," a spoken word track ("I thought that it could be the sound of the future...") that explodes into a sonic masterpiece. Then he lines up a choice DJ gig (his "live DJ debut") with the Red Bull Music Academy and, as he says in the above lecture, the interviews, production asks and management offers just keep rolling in.

It's that lecture -- also given as part of the Red Bull Music Academy -- that's debuting exclusively on HuffPost Entertainment. The two-hour special is a treat for music fans, regardless of how familiar they are with Moroder's work (and with production credits for Donna Summer, David Bowie, Blondie, Adam Ant, Pat Benatar, »

The Americans Ep 1.12 ‘The Oath’ has a wedding, a funeral (of sorts), and lots of betrayal

The Americans Season 1, Episode 12 ‘The Oath’

Directed by John Dahl

Written by Joshua Brand & Melissa James Gibson

Airs Wednesday nights at 10pm Et on FX

There have been a lot of loose ends spread throughout the first season of The Americans, and many of them come back into play in ‘The Oath’. It’s a little jarring at first, seeing all these elements from earlier episodes suddenly come back into frame again – but it does so in such a fascinating way, it manages to utilize all those unresolved plots to ramp up the tension of the episode, a crescendo that continues until it’s at a deafening level by the final scene.

Where does everything start falling apart for Phillip and Elizabeth? From just about every angle possible, and all (conveniently) simultaneously. ‘The Oath’ opens with a wigged Elizabeth meeting up with her new contact Sanford, whose got a high-risk, »

The Americans Recap: “The Oath”

24 April 2013 8:00 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Things really picked up this week on The Americans as we barreled towards next week's finale.  It's hard to believe we've spent twelve weeks with the show, but the payoffs are finally coming, and, meanwhile, they are developping in very strange ways.  Philip, as Clark, takes things to a whole new level with Martha, leaving both him and Elizabeth wondering what went wrong in their marriage, while Nina finds out the information she has been seeking, even if it wasn't offered.  Many have died for the cause so far, both American and Russian, but The Americans was quiet on the action this week, though high on emotion.  Hit the jump for why if she sounds like Pat Benatar, she probably is righteous. When Clark asked Martha to marry him, my first thought was, "that escalated quickly."  Even though Philip is working her to get information about Gaad, is he pushing her too hard, »

Briefs: Alexander Skarsgard's Loincloth Is Stripped, A Klaine Reunion, and Satan's Ten Commandments

Birthday shoutouts go to Charlie Hunnam (above), who is 33, Alex Pettyfer is 23, and Mandy Moore is 29. Satan's Ten Commandments to the Homosexual Lobby. In tragic news, it appears that the big budget "reimagining" of Tarzan, starring Alexander Skarsgard as the legendary swinger, may not go forward. In ratings news, NBC's endlessly plugged Ready For Love came out of the gate chased by the Cancellation Bear. The Vampire Diaries has cast Scott Parks in the role of villain Silas. Below you can see the penultimate episode of Season Two of Old Dogs & New Tricks, with special guest star Michael Kearns. Damian calls Nathan his "agent" (and I could feel the kick in the gut), and Brad makes a surprising decision.

Out has released its Top 50 Power List for 2013.

Congrats to Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent, who are now engaged.

Ranking The 5 Man-On-Man Kisses Ever Nominated For The "Best Kiss" MTV Movie Award

The 2013 MTV Movie Awards air Sunday, April 14 (just one day before Logo's NewNowNext Awards) with host Rebel Wilson, but before we settle in for another night of golden popcorn handouts, let's take a moment to remember why we cherish this ceremony most: the MTV Movie Award for Best Kiss.

In the history of the show, five different man-on-man kisses have been nominated for Best Kiss, and two of them have won (numbers #3 and #1 here, if you're keeping track). Can you name them off the top of your head? Let's rank these important nominees/winners one by one and see if our favorites still hold up.

5. Jason Biggs and Seann William Scott, American Pie 2

I'll give this man-on-man lip-lock credit for one thing: It was a part of every trailer I ever saw on TV for American Pie 2, and it's not every day you see two male stars of »

Dancing With the Stars Week 3 Results: Did the Right Couple Go Home?

2 April 2013 7:16 PM, PDT | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

After Dorothy Hamill’s shocking, injury-related withdrawal last week, I hoped and prayed that merit (or lack of it) alone would solely determine tonight’s homeward-bound celeb on Dancing With the Stars‘ Season 16 Week 3 results show.

Based on Monday night’s mixed bag of prom-themed performances, the usual suspects – including one of last week’s bottom dwellers, Lisa Vanderpump, along with the equally hapless Andy Dick and D.L. Hughley – looked like they could be flirting with elimination, though Wynonna Judd’s sad excuse for a samba saddled her at the very bottom of the leaderboard. Step it up, girlfriend!

American Idol: What Should the Top 7 Sing for 'Classic Rock, No Ballads' Week?

29 March 2013 7:11 AM, PDT | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

No, this is not an April Fool’s Day joke: American Idol has cooked up a fun, fresh theme for next Wednesday’s Top 7 performance episode.

Yeah, I kinda wish Nigel Lythgoe & Co. hadn’t added the “Classic” modifier to “Classic Rock, No Ballads” night — why not let the kids go current, if they’re so inclined? — but still, we won’t get seven consecutive ballads. (What-what?) And as long as Nigel isn’t maniacally offering a meager list of 15 or 20 pre-approved songs, it’s a pretty broad theme, too, with plenty of opportunities for brilliance and/or catastrophe.

'Sound City' review: Dave Grohl gets his groove back

15 March 2013 9:00 AM, PDT | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

You almost need to see Dave Grohl's documentary "Sound City" with headphones on. That's the best way to pick up the nuances the legions of legendary musicians are talking about in this ratty old recording studio where some of the greatest rock records ever made were cut from the 1970s through the '90s.

When Grohl, drummer with Nirvana and later Foo Fighters frontman, and other drummers such as Mick Fleetwood (Fleetwood Mac) talk about the presence, the unique sound that drums carried out of this dump of a studio in Van Nuys, Calif., headphones are the best way to sample that difference, that analog "oomph" that Sound City gave them.

And as Fleetwood, Grohl and the others -- from Tom Petty and Kevin Cronin (Reo Speedwagon) to Rick Springfield and Neil Young -- will tell you, if you get the drums right, the rest just falls into place. »

"The Carrie Diaries" Episode 1.09: Cracking The Closet Door

Oh honey, the only thing you'll find at that end of that treasure trail is heartbreak.

If you need a primer on the characters..

This week's episode of The Carrie Diaries opens to "Edge Of Seventeen," which is, of course, the greatest rock song of the 80's. Can the next 59 minutes possibly live up to that? Of course not! Nothing can. But this was still a fun episode with, and a pivotal one for Walt.

Walt and the fabulously-named Donna Ladonna have been seeing each other since he broke up with Maggie, and are having fun with movie marathons and trips to the mall and bedroom fashion shows. What they're not doing is having sex (although Walt does give her The Gay Bff Massage, so we can cross that off the list).

We've all been there.

Donna starts getting suspicious when Walt turns down her subtle advances, because he "wants to take it slowly, »

Sound City Review: Dave Grohl’s Stellar Trip Down Memory Lane

3 February 2013 10:01 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl is a drummer, guitarist, singer, and now, a filmmaker – is there anything the guy can’t do? Apparently not, if his documentary about one of the music landscape’s most iconic fountains of creativity, one of the best-received films out of this year’s Sundance Film Festival, is any indication.

A love letter to Grohl’s old stomping ground, the titular California-based recording studio which gave birth to Nirvana’s seminal album Nevermind, Sound City is an intimate examination of both the ridiculous number of artists it allowed to flourish – Metallica, Neil Young, Trent Reznor, Reo Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Fleetwood Mac, Barry Manilow and countless others – and also the less-famous but equally important faces behind the studio glass; the studio managers, technicians and producers who were instrumental in getting so many popular works made. Leaving no stone unturned, Grohl manages to »

Essential viewing for fans of ‘Warm Bodies’ – Zombies In Love (Part One)

31 January 2013 12:06 AM, PST | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

With the release of Jonathan Levine’s Warm Bodies, I decided to compile a list of my favourite films that take a non-traditional approach to the living-dead canon. More specifically, they all blend romance and zombies, in their own unique and twisted ways.

This is the first of what will be a two part article.

1: Dance of the Dead

Directed by Gregg Bishop

Written by Joe Ballarini

2008, USA

Dance of The Dead may seem like another lowbrow, low budget horror film, but in fact, it offers sharp writing, terrific characterizations, likeable performances, and a real affection for geek culture. Imagine the humour of Night of the Living Dorks but powered by the central plot behind Night of the Creeps. Sure Dance uses every rule from the official zombie handbook, but for a movie that seems equally inspired by a John Hughes coming of age flick, Dance of the Dead »

‘The Bachelor’ Recap: Did Tierra’s Breakdown Earn Her A Rose?

28 January 2013 7:13 PM, PST | HollywoodLife | See recent HollywoodLife news »

Sean finally proves he’s just as dumb as he looks, failing to see how ‘Tierra-ble’ Tierra is when she has her dramatic (fake) breakdown.

Tensions were high on the Jan. 28 episode of The Bachelor, as a group date of roller derby took a nasty turn when one of Sean Lowe‘s ladies face planted in a terrible accident. (That or one of the other girls pushed her, I can’t be sure.) Thirty seconds in to the first episode we get our first obligatory shot of Sean topless, and so it began!

Sean & Selma’s Private Date

Sean selected Selma for the first private date, and the other girls did the usual fake “ahhs” when she left to get ready. Sean took her on a private plane, then for a rock-climbing session in the Joshua Tree National Park. It’s never just dinner and a movie on The Bachelor, »

B-Sides: Once Bitten, Thrice Speed

18 January 2013 11:51 PM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Jim Carrey’s Once Bitten makes its second B-Sides appearance thanks to a theme song by the band 3 Speed and the only official music video from the 1985 teen horror comedy about a virgin getting mixed up with a much older vampire. Like Twilight, only intentionally funny.

Once Bitten stars a young Jim Carrey as a horny teenage virgin pursued by an aging vamp (Lauren Hutton) who desperately needs to suck the blood from the inner thigh of a male virgin in order to maintain her eternal youth. This doesn’t sit well with his chaste girlfriend (Karen Kopins). A love triangle still more believable than that of Twilight ensues.

3 Speed, the Boston synth rock band responsible for the soundtrack’s title song, enjoyed some success opening for the likes of Pat Benatar; yet, their record company, McA, never allowed them to record a full album. Instead they were only allowed »
