It was a sad day in Smurf Village earlier this month ... when the woman who voiced Smurfette moved on to that big mushroom patch in the sky ... and now one of her co-stars is honoring her Smurf life with a touching final tribute. Victoria Fringe Festival '12: How Do I Get You "Alone?" and Future Plans

4 September 2012 9:00 AM, PDT | 28 Days Later Analysis | See recent 28 Days Later Analysis news »

*Spoiler alert. Director/writer: Tom Stuart. Cast: Michael Bell, David MacPherson and Alex Frankson. When Hollywood cannot deliver a good movie that takes inspiration from The Exorcist, like its recent release, The Possession, perhaps going to live theatre is required. At the Victoria Fringe Festival, one of the final performances for the week included a dark study in what some individuals may experience when "Alone" in the dark. Parts of the play takes a few cues from Interview with a Vampire and Shakespeare’s Hamlet, and gives it a more pathological spin. The Resolute micro-series from several years ago (scripted by Warren Ellis) was a nice sequel, but that was usually the exception to the rule. The announcement of another new series, Renegades, did not set my expectations very high. After watching the premiere, however, I was pleasantly surprised.

Relying on a solid story, good characterization, and great voice acting, Renegades is an entertaining twist on the original concept. It retains enough charm to win over die-hard G.I. Joe fans, and presents an original concept that will bring in new fans. »

Parents in Florida have forced their son to stand outside wearing a sign detailing his bad grades. Michael Bell Jr of the seventh grade was told he must stay on the street corner wearing the double-sided sign after they discovered he failed three classes. The back of the sign reads: "I'm in the 7th grade and got 3 F's. Blow your horn if there's something wrong with that."
