Trivia

By the age of 13, Art was an FCC licensed radio technician. A few years later, as a young airman, Bell and an equally foolhardy buddy built their own pirate radio station right on Amarillo Air Force base, secretly broadcasing Rock 'n' Roll to appreciative locals. These kind of antics were not limited to bootleg military radio. As a civilian DJ., Art Bell landed in the Guinness Book of Records for a 116 hour (and 15 minutes) solo broadcast marathon "playing the hits" on KENI in Anchorage Alaska. The money raised there allowed Art to charter a DC 8, fly to Vietnam and rescue 130 Vietnamese Orphans stranded in Saigon at the war's end. They were eventually all brought to America and adopted by American families. Art's no-nonsense demeanor doesn't fool his listerners who sense he's more complex underneath.

December 31, 2002: Retired for the third (and supposedly final time) from his nationally syndicated radio show "Coast To Coast AM", citing back problems which kept him off the air for most of the year preceding his 3rd retirement. He once again came out of retirement on September 20, 2003 and has Returned to "Coast-To-Coast AM" as the current weekend host of that radio talk show ever since.

One of his all-time favorite songs, and one he frequently uses as bumper music on his radio show, is "Some Velvet Morning" by Lee Hazelwood and Nancy Sinatra.

Licensed amateur (ham) radio operator with the call sign W6OBB.

Mr. Bell's beloved wife Ramona died January 5, 2006 in Laughlin, Nevada while on vacation. She had an asthma attack. The couple reportedly never spent one day apart during their fifteen year marriage.

On April 16, 2006, announced on his radio show, Coast to Coast AM, he had traveled to the Philippines and married a girl in her twenties, Airyn Ruiz. He met her after an e-mail she sent to him after his wife died in January. On the same program, he announced he would be moving to the Philippines. He said he would still continue doing the radio show from there.

Became a father to a little girl, Asia Rayne Bell, May 20, 2007.

Where Are They Now

(September 2003) Less than a year after retiring, he is returning as the weekend host of "Coast To Coast AM".

(June 2007) Retired again (for the fourth time) from hosting the weekend editions of Coast to Coast AM, because he wanted to spend more time with his wife and new daughter. Fans are currently awaiting his next return to the airwaves.
