Radu Beligan was born on December 14, 1918 in Galbeni, Bacau, Romania. He was an actor and assistant director, known for Dupa-amiaza unui tortionar (2001), The Poseidon Explosion (1973) and Singuratatea florilor (1976). He was married to Marica Beligan, Dana Crivat-Ionescu and Nineta Gusti. He died on July 20, 2016 in Bucharest, Romania.

Graduate of the Dramatic Arts Conservatory in Bucharest, Romania.
Director of the National Theater "I.L. Caragiale" in Bucharest, Romania (1969-1990).
On December 15, 2013, Radu Beligan was declared the "The oldest active theatre actor in the world" by Guinness World Records. He was 95 years old at that time. Beligan celebrated the title by playing the main role in "The Egoist" by French playwright Jean Anouilh, playing aging playwright Leon Saint-Pe for the 330th time.
Initiator, founder and director of the Comedy Theatre of Bucharest between 1961-1969.
He acted in films since 1943.
He was elected an Honorary Member of the Romanian Academy in 2004.
The public space located at the crossroads of Carol I Boulevard and Ion C. Bratianu Boulevard, near University Square, in downtown Bucharest, will be named after him: Radu Beligan Square. A bust of the actor will also be installed there.
He was a professor at the Institute of Theatre and Film in Bucharest, Romania.
