The former Buzzcocks host has spent much of the year peddling his brand of angst-ridden Britishness in the Us. And his knack for mining uncomfortable truths has seen him compared to Woody Allen – but does he really want to make it big stateside?
There is a brilliantly awkward moment on the Us talkshow The View, clipped on YouTube, where Simon Amstell tries to charm Joy Behar, the unconvinced 70-something host, with a bit from his show Numb. Amstell is explaining how conversation with his mum is always secondary to the fact that "I came out of her vagina". And that because she came out of Grandma's vagina and so on, it makes that relationship harder, too. "It's like a Russian doll of awkwardness," he tells her. Behar finally laughs and tells him he's funny. "So," he touches her arm. "Have I broken America yet?"
Which, his staged eagerness aside, is »

Barbara Walters has had 10 co-hosts on “The View” since the daytime talk show premiered in 1997, and Jimmy Kimmel tried his hardest on Monday night to get her to admit which one was her “least favorite.” Out of Whoopi Goldberg, Jenny McCarthy, Joy Behar, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Sherri Shepherd, Star Jones, Lisa Ling, Rosie O’Donnell, Debbie Matenopoulos and Meredith Vieira, Kimmel suspected O’Donnell and Jones were in the running. See video: Barbara Walters on Retiring: ‘I’m Not Walking Into the Sunset’ “I can’t even imagine it,” Walters laughed when thinking of a Rosie and Star pairing. “I think that could be a most. »

Jimmy Kimmel really wanted to know Barbara Walters' least favorite View co-host during her 17-year reign on the morning show, but the veteran TV personality was predictably diplomatic during a Monday Nov. 18 chat on Jimmy Kimmel Live. "I don't like any of them," Walters, 84, said. Kimmel rattled off a list of departed View hosts -- Meredith Vieira, Whoopi Goldberg, Rosie O'Donnell, Joy Behar, Star Jones, Sherri Shepherd, Lisa Ling, Elizabeth Hasselbeck -- to help Walters hone in on her "least favorite." Walters responded, "They've all [...] »
If comedy has a Dorothy Parker, it’s Caroline Hirsch. The nightclub that bears her name on Broadway at the north end of Times Square is her salon, and for more than 30 years now, Carolines has been hosting the funniest and most famous stand-up comedians. From Jerry Seinfeld to Dave Chappelle to Louis Ck and Tracy Morgan, Carolines has been more than a prime showcase for the most hilarious people alive — it’s a room every comic has to conquer in order make his or her bones in the business.
Hirsch will be the first to admit that she herself isn’t funny. »

The View is heading to the Magical Kingdom for the November sweep, in hopes of widening its lead over CBS’ The Talk. Mickey Mouse himself made the announcement this morning on The View which is a program of Disney-owned ABC. It’s the first time The View has had to go to Disneyland – the place ABC shows go to goose their ratings. The daytime talker will broadcast live from Disneyland to coincide with Mickey Mouse’s 85th birthday on November 18. ABC’s late night star Jimmy Kimmel, who’s been getting lots of attention these days as he ratchets up to take on new Tonight show competition this season, with fake YouTube Failed-Twerk videos, verbal brawls/hug-it-outs with Kanye West, etc , will be the lead guest of The Ladies of The View for that Disneyland week, appearing on Mickey’s birthday. This season to date, The View, minus Elisabeth Hasselbeck »

During her 10-year tenure as the resident conservative voice on ABC's daytime talk show "The View," Elisabeth Hasselbeck went from being a former shoe industry industrial designer and "Survivor" contestant to a confident TV professional who learned how to stand up for herself in the occasional pointed debates that broke out among the all-female panelists.
But on Monday, Sept. 16, Hasselbeck was still perched on a couch on a weekday, but instead of the one-hour chat fest of "The View," she was tackling three hours a day as a co-host of Fox News Channel's morning show, "Fox and Friends," with show veterans Steve Doocy and Brian Kilmeade.
Things are different when you trade in estrogen for testosterone.
"'They're like siblings," Hasselbeck says to Zap2it of her companions on the show's curvy white couch. "I keep calling them my brothers, because they feel like that. Certainly, they're unique."
It's not an entirely new situation for Hasselbeck, »
On Oct. 9, the Cinema Society hosted a screening of 20th Century Fox’s “The Counselor,” a drug cartel thriller with a screenplay by Cormac McCarthy. The event at Manhattan’s Crosby Street Hotel was packed with attendees like Joy Behar, Grace Covington, Thomas Roberts and Julianna Margulies.
At the cocktail party before the film, some of the cast talked about their favorite works by McCarthy.
“To be honest with you,” said pic’s star Michael Fassbender, “I started reading ‘The Road’ and unfortunately, I haven’t finished a book since probably 2006. I just end up reading scripts all the time, and I’m a very slow reader. But I was a big fan of ‘No Country for Old Men.’ And this script blew me away.”

So far, the McCarthy Era is treating “The View” fairly well. In the first three weeks of the new season of ABC daytime gab-fest “The View” — which saw Jenny McCarthy come aboard after the departures of Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Joy Behar — the show has weathered the transition, experiencing only minor dips in total viewership and the women 25-54 demographic. In its season return, The Talk had featured its co-hosts revealing personal secrets, including Julie Chen’s much-talked-about news she’d had plastic surgery on her eyes two decades ago to make them look larger, after her boss at a local TV station told her they were holding back her career. Sharon Osbourne revealed she’d dated Jay Leno, while they were each single. With The Talk nipping at its heels, ABC’s The View trotted out its overhauled gaggle, featuring new host Jenny McCarthy and minus Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck, and hit a five-month high of 3.01 million viewers. Joy Behar brought a gossip rag to “The Tonight Show” Wednesday night, using it to recount an old fling between Jay Leno and Sharon Osbourne. “Sharon says the comic was a good kisser but doesn’t remember the sex,” Behar read aloud from a 35-year-old Globe magazine. The former host of “The View” continued: “But she says coyly — as only Sharon can do — ‘There’s a reason that God gives people those chins, and I found out the reason why.’” See video: Watch Jay Leno Call Matt LeBlanc a ‘F—ing D—–bag’ As Christina Aguilera — Leno’s first guest — whooped, »
