T.I., Kevin Hart to Produce Music-Themed Comedy Series

T.I. and Kevin Hart have joined forces for a new music-themed, office comedy series currently in development at Showtime. The rapper and comedian will executive produce the show and are expected to make occasional guest spots, Deadline reports.

A rep for T.I. confirmed the project to Rolling Stone.

Turner network truTV has renewed eight of its shows in addition to greenlighting five more and putting four into development, the network announced during their upfront presentation in New York on Friday.

New seasons of “Impractical Jokers,” “Jon Glaser Loves Gear,” “The Carbonaro Effect,” “Hack My Life,” and “Comedy Knockout” will be joined in the 2017-2018 season by new shows including “Laff Mobb’s Laff Tracks,” “At Home with Amy Sedaris,” and “Bobcat Goldthwait’s Misfits & Monsters,” among others. The network’s development pipeline includes projects from Molly Austin and Shamikah Martinez, Liza Treyger, The Kloons, and Rose Schlossberg.

Bet Sets New Comedies, Rebrands Centric and Nabs ‘The Breaks,’ ‘Hit the Floor’ From VH1

Bet has ordered a slew of new series for the coming year, including scriped and unscripted comedies from Kevin Hart, Steve Harvey, Wanda Sykes and “The Nightly Show” alum Robin Thede.

The Viacom cabler also confirmed it will pick up the second season of hip-hop drama “The Breaks,” which is moving from sibling channel VH1, and produce new episodes of VH1’s dance-set drama “Hit the Floor.”

Bet Networks chairman-ceo Debra Lee was scheduled to unveil the programming news Thursday at the cabler’s upfront presentation in New York. Bet also confirmed that its struggling spinoff channel Centric will be rebranded Bet Her.

NBC Orders Amy Poehler-Nick Offerman Unscripted Series ‘The Handmade Project’

NBC is reuniting “Parks and Recreation” alums Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman. The network Tuesday ordered “The Handmade Project,” a new unscripted series from Poehler’s Paper Kite Productions. Poehler and Offerman are set to co-host the competition series, which will feature artisans competing to impress judges with their hand-made crafts. NBC has given the series a six-episode season-one order.

In each episode, contestants will tackle projects based on a new theme, with the level of difficulty steadily increasing. At the end of the season, one contestant will be crowned champion.

“I’m thrilled to be celebrating artists who make things by hand, and I’m looking forward to finally conquering my fear of paper mache,” Poehler said.

Rebel Wilson’s Romantic Comedy Draws Director Todd Strauss-Schulson

Todd Strauss-Schulson will direct Rebel Wilson’s comedy “Isn’t It Romantic” for New Line.

Todd Garner, Grant Scharbo, and Gina Matthews are producing the film. Erin Cardillo wrote the original script with revisions by Dana Fox and Katie Silberman, and the latest draft by Paula Pell

The film follows a cynical woman who doesn’t believe in love and then wakes up to discover that her life has become a romantic comedy.

HBO Home Entertainment is set to release the first season of Insecure on Blu-ray and DVD tomorrow.

The comedy series is created, written and starring Issa Rae (The Misadventures Of Awkward Black Girl).

The series look at the honest depiction of a modern-day African-American woman and the everyday challenges she faces. It follows the best friends Issa (Rae) and Molly (Yvonne Orji) navigating in the professional and person environment of Los Angeles as they try to overcome all stereotypes of two black women.

HBO Developing Comedy From ‘Bob’s Burgers’ Actors, Amy Poehler

HBO has pacted with Amy Poehler’s Paper Kite production banner to develop a comedy project to star “Bob’s Burgers” actor John Roberts.

The project marks the first collaboration for Poehler’s Universal TV-based shingle with HBO. “Edison” revolves around a 40-year-old real estate broker who dreams of living in New York but is stuck in his hometown of Edison, N.J.

Roberts is writing the script with fellow “Bob’s Burgers” voice actor H. Jon Benjamin. Roberts, Benjamin, Poehler, and her partner in Paper Kite, Brooke Posch, will exec produce with 3 Arts’ Dave Becky.

Paper Kite just nabbed a pilot order for an ABC comedy, “Household Name,” to star Carol Burnett. It’s also the production banner behind Comedy Central’s “Broad City” and Hulu’s “Difficult People.”

Carol Burnett’s TV Return Inches Closer With Official ABC Pilot Order

Carol Burnett just may be returning to television.

The TV icon’s comedy pilot, “Household Name,” has scored a formal pilot pickup from ABC, Variety has learned.

Amy Poehler is an executive producer on the project, which was created by Michael Saltzman. Burnett will also pull double duty, starring and serving as an executive producer.

“Household Name” follows a family who has an opportunity to buy the house of their dreams, but under extremely abnormal circumstances: they must live with the previous owner, an eccentric, larger-than-life actress, played by Burnett.

The multi-camera comedy hails from Universal Television. Other exec producers are Brooke Posch of Poehler’s Paper Kite banner, Dave Becky of 3 Arts Entertainment, and Michael Pelmont of the Nacelle Company.

TBS has ordered 10 episodes of animated comedy series “The Cops” from creators Louis C.K. and Albert Brooks, to premiere in 2018.

C.K. and Brooks will be executive producers on the show, along with Greg Daniels, Dino Stamatopolous, Dave Becky, and Howard Klein.
