"Supernatural" has one of the most active online fanbases of any show we cover on Zap2it, so we've come to expect a wide range of opinions after any given episode. Now that Season 7 is over, we thought we'd take a look at the 23 episodes and discuss some thoughts on Sera Gamble's last season as showrunner. Please note that this article represents one fan's opinion, and we expect plenty of conflicting views. Discussion is welcome (and encouraged!) in the comments section below -- just make sure to keep it classy!
Castiel's Exit: The season began on a controversial note, with Misha Collins' role being reduced to that of a special guest star after two seasons as a series regular. The choice to take the beloved Castiel down a dark road at the end of Season 6 was a bold one, particularly when he nearly destroyed Sam to create a »

Supernatural Review, Season 7, Episode 23: “Survival of the Fittest”
Written by Sera Gamble
Directed by Robert Singer
Airs Fridays at 9pm (Et) on the CW
This week, on Supernatural: Cas collects honey, the guys go nun shopping, and the Impala makes an impression
After several weeks of solid, interesting episodes, episodes that seemed to be moving various pieces into precise positions, Supernatural looked to be set up for a strong, entertaining finale. As it begins, fans’ excitement will grow as the well edited recap skips through the season’s highlights, of course set to “Carry On Wayward Son”, as the season finale recaps have all been since season two.** Unfortunately, by the time the finale ends, though many will undoubtedly enjoy it, the more scrutinizing will be disappointed at the wasted potential and sheer messiness of not only this episode, but the major arcs of the final third of the season as well. »

Yesterday, Jensen Ackles gave me what I thought was a little tease about the season finale of Supernatural while on the red carpet at the CW Upfronts. (Yes, that was a humblebrag.) I shared it with y’all in Spoiler Room this afternoon. To recap, he said: “In previous season, Dean found himself in hell and we had to figure out how he was going to get back from hell next season. This is something like that. It’s going to be interesting how we get back from that.”
Well, I can say a lot of wonderful things about that guy — and I have. »

Note: Do not read on if you have not seen Season 7, Episode 23 of The CW's "Supernatural," entitled "Survival of the Fittest."
Reviewing a season finale is very different from reviewing a singular episode, and "Supernatural" finales are more challenging than most. The end of a season has to tie up loose story threads from the entire season preceding it, while still leaving enough dangling to create a compelling jumping off point for next year. Thankfully, despite a few (okay, more than a few) lackluster episodes this season, I think that the season finale managed to course-correct in a way that makes me truly optimistic for Season 8. The last couple of episodes didn't build up much momentum going into the finale, in comparison with the stellar runs at the end of Seasons 1, 2, 4 and 5, but a finale still needs to stand on its own merits, and against the odds, I felt like »

"Dexter" (Showtime): We were still trying to wrap our minds around the plot development that Debra (Jennifer Carpenter) was feeling romantically attracted to her foster brother (Michael C. Hall) when the writers threw us a stunning curveball, when Deb walked in on Dexter as he was administering the coup de grace to the Doomsday Killer (Colin Hanks). That's right: Now Deb knows Dexter is a serial murderer.
"Raising Hope" (Fox): Once past the outlandish setup of the show's initial premise -- that the adorable title character is the offspring of Jimmy Chance's (Lucas Neff) one-night fling with a now-executed serial killer - this wacky sitcom has steered away from soap opera conventions in favor of playing like a live-action cartoon most of the time. So we nearly fainted, just as Jimmy did, at the out-of-left-field revelation that Hope's mom survived the electric chair and was coming back to claim her. »

I’m not at all surprised to find the penultimate episode of Supernatural‘s seventh season to be just as maddening as the ones that preceded it. I had hopes this season could bring itself together in a delightful fashion, but there was just no way that was going to happen, not while still under the command of Sera Gamble. If there’s one person I can put all the blame on for this sucky season it’s her. Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, Jim Beaver, and Misha Collins have all done their best to make the material they’re given work. It’s not their faults Gamble has steered this storyline into such mediocrity, abusing the mythology originally set up by Eric Kripke when he was at the helm. What makes it all worse is the show has presented us with some pleasing concepts, its just the execution of those concepts has been near dreadful. »

In last week's episode of "Supernatural," Bobby (Jim Beaver) was having some trouble making contact with Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles), after a fight with a Leviathan drained his ghostly energy. In this week's upcoming episode, though, Bobby's got some of his strength back and he's able to appear to Dean long enough to discuss their upcoming Leviathan showdown.
As Bobby outlines their strategy for killing Dick Roman, Dean appears increasingly uneasy. It doesn't help that the weapon requires blood from the king of Hell, Crowley, as well as blood from an Alpha monster and the bone of a human "as light and good as the Leviathan are hungry and dark." That's some pretty shady stuff.
Add to that the fact that Bobby seems unable to control his surges of emotion, and we'd say that Dean is right to be a little uncomfortable with their current situation. But »

With just two episodes remaining in Season 7 of "Supernatural", the clock is ticking for Sam and Dean to stop Dick and his army of Leviathans. And if the title of Episode 7.22, "There Will Be Blood", is any indication, it won't be easy! Good thing Bobby's there to help.

Good news Supernatural fans! The CW has confirmed that the show will be back for an eighth season, with Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki also signed up to return as Dean and Sam Winchester. With the news last month that Sera Gamble would be stepping down for Jeremy Carver to take over as showrunner, another season already seemed likely but this obviously confirms it. E! Online reached out to Misha Collins (Castiel) about whether or not he'll be back to which he said, "I would love to see Cas come back. It's been such a fun show to work on and such a fun character and such a fun fandom to be immersed in. All and all, if there is some way to work out for Cas to come back that'd be great." Jim Beaver (Bobby) added, "I hope he's [Jeremy Carver] a good boss...by which I mean I hope he »
