Remember “Ben & Kate,” the sweet little comedy about oddball siblings Fox aired — and pretty quickly canceled — earlier this season? Turns out the network developed a logical single-camera companion to the show, which should provide small comfort to “The Goodwin Games,” a series from the creators of “How I Met Your Mother” being rather conspicuously burned off in the summer heat. Mildly charming but exceptionally thin, it makes it hard to fault Fox for its lack of faith. So let the “Games” begin, but don’t expect many to wind up carrying a torch for it.
The series hinges on a trio of completely unbelievable siblings, reunited by the death of their father (Beau Bridges, in full mad-scientist mode). As if plucked from “Gilligan’s Island,” they include a buttoned-up doctor (Scott Foley), an actress (“Ugly Betty’s” Becki Newton) and a nincompoop thief (T.J. Miller) freshly paroled from prison.

Well, another mother of a mystery has been solved, just days after CBS’ How I Met Your Mother raised the curtain on the titular lady.
Series cocreator Carter Bays previously revealed that as Himym unspools its ninth and final season, viewers will become “much better” acquainted with Cristin Milioti’s bass-playing cutie – whom we first and briefly laid eyes on at the close of the Season 8 finale — as the show tells “the epic story of the longest wedding weekend ever.”

Last year, Fox picked up a comedy from How I Met Your Mother creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas called The Goodwin Games. It starred Scott Foley (now hunking it up on Scandal), Becki Newton (most recently Barney's stripper ex-fiancée Quinn on Himym), and Jack Lacy (Pete on The Office) as siblings whose father died, and instead of a will left them a bizarre competition pitting them against each other and against other contestants. This comedy then sat around for a year. A year! Tj Miller (a sitcom utility player and host of Comedy Central's Mash Up) replaced Lacy, and now — after an eternity in TV time — Fox is finally dusting it off. The show will officially air May 20, but the whole pilot is online now. It's cute! Not earth-shatteringly so, but certainly watchably so. »

So how did Milioti land the part of "How I Met Your Mother's" Mother? According to series co-creator Carter Bays, the show's casting director has been talking to Milioti for a while now.

"It helped that she turned us onto her and then the more we got to know Cristin and see her work, the more we realized, Yeah, she's the right choice. So that definitely helped, because we didn't »

As heavily promoted, CBS‘ How I Met Your Mother introduced the mother character in the final seconds of last night’s season finale when she was seen purchasing a train ticket to Farhampton, where she will eventually meet Ted (Josh Radnor). Cristin Milioti, star of Broadway’s Once, was cast in the role, which will be featured prominently on Himym‘s upcoming ninth and final season. “Cristin Milioti is, against all odds, exactly what we were looking for,” Himym co-creator/executive producer Carter Bays said. “She made us laugh on 30 Rock, she made us swoon in Once, and her ukulele skills are no joke”. As for the plot of Season 9, “it will tell the epic story of the longest wedding weekend ever”, Bays said. In casting the mother, Himym stayed true to its original casting strategy, which involved casting young, relatively unknown actors like Radnor, Jason Segel and Cobie Smulders »

I already reviewed the "How I Met Your Mother" season finale last night, but I have some morning-after thoughts — including words from Carter Bays — on what the episode means for the show's final season, coming up just as soon as we watch a movie that doesn't start with a desk lamp jumping on top of a capital I... Sigh. So last night, I was all excited and optimistic about what the introduction of Cristin Milioti as the Mother (watch the video below if you missed it) would do for the show as it headed into the home stretch. So, who is the girl with the yellow umbrella?
Her name is Cristin Milioti, a 27-year-old New Jersey actress who’s shown up on Broadway, in films, and on television: The Broadway set will know Milioti as “Girl” in the musical version of Once, a role which earned her a Tony nomination last year; film buffs will recognize her from movies like 2012′s Mike Birbiglia comedy Sleepwalk with Me; and TV fans may remember her from The Sopranos, The Good Wife, Nurse Jackie, or — most notably — 30 Rock. The unveiling took place in the final few seconds of the season 8 finale, as Milioti’s yet-unnamed character simply walked up to a Long Island Rail Road ticket booth to purchase one ticket to the fictional Farhampton, presumably to go play in the band at the impending nuptials between Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) and Robin (Cobie Smulders). The show didn’t exactly spell out the reveal (casual fans could have missed »

How I Met Your Mother executive producer Stephen Lloyd has closed a new two-year overall deal with 20th Century Fox Television. Under the pact, Lloyd will continue as executive producer on the upcoming final season of the studio’s CBS comedy How I Met Your Mother, on which he has been since Season 1, and will join another 20th comedy series the following season, ABC’s Modern Family. Himym creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas “rely on Stephen tremendously, and we couldn’t imagine not having him on the show for its pivotal final season,” 20th TV chairman Gary Newman said. “It also speaks to how much we value Stephen that he’ll go straight from there to our incredibly important Modern Family the following year. He’s a hugely versatile writer who delivers both laugh-out-loud comedy and enormous heart, and every showrunner wants him on their team.” On Modern Family, »
