- Thanks to MTV director Milton Lage, Michael got his start working with MTV by being a PA for several MTV Spring Break Specials in Daytona Beach. The MTV staff for these Spring Break shows included director Beth McCarthy ("Saturday Night Live"), Ted Demme (the director of "Blow"), and director Milton Lage ("MTV Unplugged," "Hard Rock Live").
- Attended Oviedo High School in Florida with pro wrestler Monty "Kipper" Sopp (aka Billy Gunn) and comedian Tom Rhodes.
- Michael set a neighborhood record by seeing the original Star Wars twice every weekend for 46 consecutive weekends when it played over a year at his local AMC theatre in Virginia.
- Michael got his first taste of filmmaking as a 12 year-old by working on 8mm movies with a cast and crew of neighborhood buddies.
- When Michael's mother was struggling through a divorce as a single mom with four kids, he would often be brought to his mother's night job at a movie theatre. There, Michael watched movies on school nights and started a movie poster collection.
- Michael was in attendance at the "Epic In Miami" NFL game between the Miami Dolphins and San Diego Chargers in January 1982. The game is widely viewed as one of the greatest NFL games ever.
- Michael was in attendance at the Cape for the very first space shuttle launch.
