William Shakespeare’s plays are more than 400 years old, and his prose and verses are now becoming easier to interpret with the help of actor Ian McKellen. McKellen and film director Richard Loncraine are unveiling their new iPad app, Heuristic Shakespeare, designed to assist others to better understand the playwright’s text. Heuristic Shakespeare features McKellen, along with fellow actors Derek Jacobi and Frances Barber, reading Shakespeare’s lines to the camera. The play’s text scrolls underneath the actors in conjunction with their line-readings. Actors are simply reading Shakespeare’s text directly to the user. The app also incorporates a history of Shakespeare, including a timeline of his life.
