French-born torch singer, composer and actress of Russian-Polish parentage. She was trained at the Paris Conservatoire and the Ecole Supérieure de Musique. She usually sang her own compositions (invariably melancholy love songs) in nightclubs and cabarets in Paris or Brussels, always dressed in black.
