Kids' programming to move to Cbbc and CBeebies as shows struggle against TV aimed at adults
Blue Peter is to be dropped from BBC1 as part of wide-ranging shakeup that will see all the BBC's children's programmes moved from its flagship channel after more than 60 years.
The corporation will move all children's programming to digital channels Cbbc and CBeebies, as part of wide-ranging plans to cut hundreds of millions of pounds from its budget by 2017 and rejig its output for the post-analogue broadcasting era.
Blue Peter is currently presented by Helen Skelton and Barney Harwood, and airs on BBC1 on Friday afternoons, as well as Cbbc. Last Friday, Blue Peter attracted 300,000 viewers and a 3% audience share, and struggles to win viewers who tune into programming aimed at adults.
On Wednesday, the BBC Trust gave the green light to director general Mark Thompson's Delivering Quality First proposals, including the children's programming switch. »

Former Treasure Hunt and Challenge Anneka star to host weekend breakfast show, and will also front new BBC TV shows
Anneka Rice is to replace Zoe Ball on BBC Radio 2's weekend breakfast show, confirming that the former Treasure Hunt presenter's star is well and truly back in the ascendant.
Rice has been a regular stand-in on Radio 2 but begins presenting the show in her own right later this month.
The presenter will also front two new peak-time shows on BBC TV after she was singled out by director general Mark Thompson as evidence of its commitment to put more older women on screen.
Rice, 53, said: "I started my career in BBC radio so I'm thrilled to be going full circle and back to my roots. Unbelievably, I'm even looking forward to the early starts as I'm missing not having a young family any more."

Miranda Hart is reportedly in the frame to judge 'Strictly Come Dancing'. The 39-year-old comic is seen as a "startling" choice to replace Alesha Dixon - who has left to join the panel of ITV1 rival 'Britain's Got Talent' - because show chiefs don't want to go for an "obvious" choice, such as former contestants Kara Tointon or Zoe Ball, professional dancer Karen Hardy or former judge Arlene Philips. A source told the Daily Mail newspaper: "They're all so obvious. The producers want someone really startling. "Miranda is seen as a brilliant left-field choice. She totally loves the show and »
