Mini Bio (1)

Rod Ball is a native of Miami, Florida. His love of cinema and the film making process began in childhood when his grandmother, Lily, who worked behind the candy counter at two downtown Miami cinemas, would comp Rod and his older brother into the theaters. Rod was enthralled with the opportunity to view films (often double features) in the opulent cinemas of days past. He remembers being amazed at Gram's ability to find her grandsons in the darkened theater in order to deliver candy and sodas. He also had the good fortune to enjoy films with his family at the, now, mostly extinct Drive-In Theatres of that era.

Ball graduated from Miami Palmetto High School with top grades and the dorky stigma of being the President of the National Honor Society.

As a senior in high school, Rod noticed an article in the Miami Herald requesting extras to appear in Lenny (1974), a biopic of famed comedian Lenny Bruce (a hero of Rod's), directed by Bob Fosse and starring Dustin Hoffman in the title role. Rod jumped at the opportunity. The rest is, um, history.

Rod attended the University of Miami as a Business Management major (in addition to taking film making and theater classes) for two years before he transferred to ,and graduated from, the University of Colorado in Boulder with a B.S. in Organizational Management.

Rod spent several years appearing as a "background artist" in numerous films until he was cast as a Coast Guard CPO in The Island (1980) starring Michael Caine and directed by Michael Ritchie. Rod also served as a Production Assistant for that film in Antigua, WI, after his character was killed early in the filming schedule. This film enabled Mr. Ball to join the Screen Actors Guild.

Since then, he has worked in dozens of films and television projects, 50-plus commercials, many industrials, voice overs and stage plays. He has had prominent roles in the "Porky's" films, Caddyshack (1980), Cape Fear (1991), Rhinestone (1984), the Miami Vice (1984) TV series and many other films and TV shows over the years.

Most recently, Ball is featured in Bachelor Party 2: The Last Temptation (2008) (20th Century Fox, James Ryan, director) and has several other projects in the pipeline. Additionally, he has launched an independent film production company and has written several screenplays, hopefully to be shot in his beloved hometown.
