Greg Grunberg says Star Wars: The Force Awakens is all about “the story and family”

26 June 2015 3:46 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

If there is one thing Star Wars: The Force Awakens has done well (despite its heavily publicised production) is keeping its story a secret. We’ve had two trailers already, but we don’t actually know all that much about the plot of J.J. Abrams’ new adventure in a galaxy far, far away.

One of its stars Greg Grunberg however has given some details about the theme of the movie in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

“I can only say that practical effects are as important—if not more important—than the special effects,” the actor said. “And it’s all about the story and family. I mean that’s what J.J. is all about. And these new characters, these actors are unbelievable. They’re so well cast. We got our script pages, only the scenes that we were in. Not even what was being shot that day! »

'Star Wars 7' Went to Great Lengths Keeping the Script Secret

23 June 2015 10:15 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

How much do we really know about Star Wars: The Force Awakens? According to star Greg Grunberg, probably a lot less than we think. Sure, there have been plenty of Star Wars rumors over the past couple of years offering the plot outline. But the production crew went to such great lengths to keep the script secret, we can count on a lot of that past information being wrong. In fact, the franchise's most iconic actors, including the holy trinity of Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill, were not allowed to take the script home to memorize their lines.

Greg Grunberg, best known for his role on Heroes, was revealed last week to be playing an X-Wing Fighter Pilot. He is locked in for the next two movies following Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but not much more is known about his role. Some have called him »

The Top Father's Day Films Ever Made? Here Are Five Dads - Ranging from the Intellectual to the Pathological

22 June 2015 4:02 AM, PDT | Alt Film Guide | See recent Alt Film Guide news »

'Father of the Bride': Steve Martin and Kimberly Williams. Top Five Father's Day Movies? From giant Gregory Peck to tyrant John Gielgud What would be the Top Five Father's Day movies ever made? Well, there have been countless films about fathers and/or featuring fathers of various sizes, shapes, and inclinations. In terms of quality, these range from the amusing – e.g., the 1950 version of Cheaper by the Dozen; the Oscar-nominated The Grandfather – to the nauseating – e.g., the 1950 version of Father of the Bride; its atrocious sequel, Father's Little Dividend. Although I'm unable to come up with the absolute Top Five Father's Day Movies – or rather, just plain Father Movies – ever made, below are the first five (actually six, including a remake) "quality" patriarch-centered films that come to mind. Now, the fathers portrayed in these films aren't all heroic, loving, and/or saintly paternal figures. Several are »

The folks over at TheForce.net have posted the below image which shows Mark Hamill as Luke with his grey beard and metallic hand. They don’t say where they got the image from, so this is far from official.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer sets a YouTube world record

19 June 2015 6:00 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

186 days until Star Wars: 'Return of the Jedi' cast don't know what Ewoks are in rare film

15 June 2015 4:32 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

In 1982, a strange video was created during the filming of “Return of the Jedi.” A pseudo-documentary starring 11-year old Warwick Davis, “Return of the Ewok” is a fictional account of how the boy landed his role as Wicket and came to be part of the final Star Wars film. Clocking in at 24 minutes, the rare behind-the-scenes footage includes cameos by Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher…all in costume. You can watch the glorified home video in its entirety below, but the footage of the main cast begins around the 7:30 minute mark. In costume, Davis approaches Harrison Ford’s trailer for advice non where Ewoks live, but the actor has no idea what an Ewok is. Neither Hamill nor Fisher have any clue either, though Carrie takes the initiative and sends Davis to probable doom in the wastes of Tatooine.  Should you choose to follow Warwick Davis' »

Early draft of Star Wars reveals who really shot first

9 June 2015 1:31 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

It is one of the larger debates within the Star Wars Universe (although most fans are on the same page). Who shot first? Han or Greedo? Well, according to a recently discovered early draft, it was definitely Han. The scoundrel!

The script was discovered by Kristian Brown of the University of New Brunswick’s library, who stumbled upon the early draft while digitising their library. No one is quite sure how this script ended up at that particular library. “I’ll tell you one thing, right now,” Brown told CBC News. “Based on the script, I can tell you 100 per cent, Han shot first.”

Well, that puts that to rest.

The scene in question is set in the cantina in the original Star Wars. While Greedo is explaining to Han about Jabba the Hutt’s desires to capture him, Han gets the jump on Greedo and shoots him dead. In the 1997 re-edit, »

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Spoiler – Does C-3Po Lose An Arm?

9 June 2015 1:30 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

/Film

Having kept the majority of Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ specific plot details well under wraps – aside from the carefully chosen material that was meant to be released – Jj Abrams might well be slightly annoyed that yet another toy company has spoiled something.

Lego and Hasbro pretty much went out of their way to ruin some of the story for Age Of Ultron, and it’s becoming increasingly frequent for merchandisers to accidentally hint at something big in their tie-in partners. The latest subject of those unintentional spoilers is the fate of C-3Po’s arm in The Force Awakens, as it seems he’s set to become the latest Star Wars character to have a limb chopped off.

If the image of an officially licensed drinking cup is anything to go by, the droid will join Luke, Mace Windu, General Grievous, Darth Vader, Anakin and Zam Wessell in seeing an arm removed. »

With the exception of Han Solo, Chewbacca and R2-D2, the marketing for Star Wars: The Force Awakens has focused solely on the new additions to the beloved saga. From cute new droid Bb-8 to the tri-saber wielding Sith Lord Kylo Ren, the fresh faces have taken center stage.

Iconic heroes like Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and even C-3Po have been kept under wraps, but that will soon change, as the marketing campaign for the film will only intensify as its December release date draws near.
