Spike Lee's picture of 1977 New York can hardly be faulted historically, but was there a more compelling story to tell?

Between July 1976 and August 1977, a serial killer known as Son of Sam terrorised New York City.

Crime

As films about real-life serial killers go, Summer of Sam is unusual. Rather than having either the killer or an investigator as the lead, it focuses on a fictional group of Italian-Americans who live in the neighbourhood in which Son of Sam is killing. Sharp-eyed viewers familiar with New York City may notice this seems to be the Bronx. In real life, Son of Sam's crimes were mostly committed in Queens. As he wrote in his most famous letter, (which is quoted in the film, though without this particular line): "I love to hunt. Prowling the streets looking for fair game – tasty meat. »

New Creature Feature Gives Trent Haaga the Heebie Jeebies

Around these parts we love us some Trent Haaga. The man is quickly rising through the horror ranks by delivering one insanely good horror flick after the other. With Deadgirl and Chop already under his belt, his new flick is bound to give you the Heebie Jeebies.

Written by Haaga the flick will be directed by Thomas L. Callaway and it stars Robert Belushi, Cathy Shim, Michael Badalucco, Lucille Soong, Evie Thompson, Dave Randolph-Mayhem Davis, Olivia Ku, Carl Savering, Marion Ross and Jennifer Rubin. Read on for the plot crunch and look for more soon!

Review: 'The Search For One-Eyed Jimmy' Is A Remnant Of A More Colorful Time In Indie Filmmaking

The rise of technology and newer entertainment formats has left behind a number of movies, some of which never graduated to VHS, DVD or even cable. One of those "forgotten" movies has recently hit DVD and Blu-Ray from the fine folks at Kino Lorber, the micro-indie "The Search For One-Eyed Jimmy." Of course, this particular film benefitted from having a stellar cast, most of whom are regularly working today, which has helped the picture rise above the number of undistributed films during the indie boom era. Of course, once you finish the film, you'll wonder exactly how so much talent got together to amount to so little.

Holt McCallany stars as Les, a film student returning to Brooklyn to make a documentary about where he grew up. It speaks volumes that his claims of being a filmmaker are met with oohs and aahs rather than mockery or concern. His efforts are earnest and unfocused, »
