- In 1973, he debuted in the Minneappolis-based American Wrestling Association.
- In 1993 Bob Backlund made his inspirational return to the WWF as a mid-card babyface. He wrestled in that year's 30-Man Royal Rumble entering at #2 and lasted for over an hour. He was the #28th man eliminated.
- Challenged Bret Hart to a WWF title match, and after Hart won, snapped and turned heel. At the Survivor Series later that year he defeated Bret Hart to win the WWF Heavyweight title. He only held the title for a couple of days before losing it to Kevin Nash (aka "Diesel").
