Arnold Schwarzenegger to Star in David Ayer’s Ten

10 May 2012 6:34 AM, PDT | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

After spending seven years as the Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger is clearly trying to make up for lost time with his return to acting. He already has four films in the works (The Last Stand, The Expendables 2, The Tomb and Unknown Soldier) along with several other rumoured possibilities. Now he is adding yet another project to the pile as he has reportedly signed on to star in Ten, a new action movie from David Ayer (Harsh Times). The plot synopsis is as follows: "Ten revolves around the members of an elite DEA task force who depart from their usual operations and steal millions from a drug cartel safe house. Just when the team thinks they got away with it, someone begins to take out them out one by one." In other words, it's essentially yet another gritty cop drama from David Ayer, although in this case the script »

End Of Watch Trailer Spares No Ammo

9 May 2012 7:28 AM, PDT | AreYouScreening.com | See recent AreYouScreening news »

End of Watch, which isn’t hitting until September 28th, is an interesting, and somewhat strange choice for Jake Gyllenhaal. At least, it seems that way to me. A gritty, police-centric action-drama, the film follows two cops who piss off the wrong people, and find themselves on a drug cartel’s hit list.

The trailer shows some potential, but it’s hard to tell how well this one is going to go over, especially considering the camera stylings this one is going with, which some may find too gimmicky by now. Whatever you may think, you aren’t likely to see many trailers that go through more rounds of ammunition. Take a look and let me know what you think.

End Of Watch stars Academy Award® nominee Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Peña as young Los Angeles police officers Taylor and Zavala as they patrol the city’s meanest streets of south central Los Angeles. »

Film News: Arnold Schwarzenegger is Back in Open Road’s ‘Ten’

8 May 2012 12:09 PM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – Arnold Schwarzenegger promised moviegoers, “I’ll be back.” He makes his on-screen leading man return in filmmaker David Ayer’s action thriller “Ten”. Ayer’s writing credits include 2001 hit film “Training Day”, which earned an Academy Award for Denzel Washington. He will also appear in this Summer’s “The Expendables 2.”

Schwarzenegger’s character in “Ten” is part of an elite DEA task force that strategizes a typical raid until someone begins assassinating them one by one, according to Open Road Films.

“I am really excited about this project and the team that’s come together,” said Schwarzenegger via press release. “David Ayer is incredibly talented and exactly what I want for a story this compelling.”

Open Road Films provides a sneak peek saying the action unfolds through footage from handheld and surveillance cameras, giving the story a gripping, first-person immediacy.

The release date is yet to be announced. »

End of Watch Trailer Starring Jake Gyllenhaal

8 May 2012 10:40 AM, PDT | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

The found footage madness continues as David Ayer brings us a new crime flick presented through surveillance footage and handheld cameras called End of Watch. The movie stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena as two young members of the L.A.P.D. who find themselves in the Cartel's crosshairs after they make a bust that they shouldn't have made. With their lives on the line and their families hanging in the balance, they have no choice but to track down the bad guys before they can strike first. Ayer previously directed Harsh Times and Street Kings, but he's probably best known for writing Training Day. Clearly he's built a career on gritty cop dramas, and the found footage aesthetic actually makes a lot of sense for a movie like this. I just wonder if it will feel a little too much like Cops and if having a big star »

Arnold Schwarzenegger to star in Ten

8 May 2012 9:05 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

When Arnold Schwarzenegger says "I'm back!" boy does he mean it...

In addition to his big screen return this August alongside action icons Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Chuck Norris and Jean-Claude Van Damme as part of the expanded roster of the action sequel The Expendables 2, Schwarzenegger already has The Last Stand in the can ahead of a January 2013 release and is currently filming The Tomb with his Expendables 2 co-star Stallone. Now you can add another project to that list, with The Hollywood Reporter announcing that Arnie has signed on for another actioner, Ten, which is set to be directed by David Ayer (Harsh Times, Street Kings) from a screenplay by Skip Woods (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, A Good Day to Die Hard).

According to THR, "Ten revolves around the members of an elite DEA task force who depart from their usual operations and steal millions from a drug cartel safe house. »

Arnold Schwarzenegger Joins David Ayer’s Ten

7 May 2012 9:07 PM, PDT | Boomtron | See recent Boomtron news »

Arnie’s early stages of career rebirth are going by the numbers.

I find the reboot of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s career to be moving at an uncomfortably rapid pace.  Not that I’m invested one way or another in how things ultimately pan out for Arnie, but I do find it to be a deft bit of Hollywood gamesmanship that Schwarz has booked himself into about a half dozen major roles before the release of a single one of them.

The first indications are that Schwarzenegger is looking to pour himself back into the action hero mold of his early roles.  It’s hard to tell at this point whether or not this is a tactical part of the grand scheme of Team Schwarzenegger, or if Ivan Reitman has simply lost the big man’s phone number.  Either way, it’s more or less meat and potatoes in the early going. »

Arnold Schwarzenegger Counts To Ten

7 May 2012 5:06 PM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

While David Ayer has become something of a cop drama / thriller specialist, he has worked in other genres, including writing the scripts for U-571 and The Fast And The Furious. Now he’s targeting the Drug Enforcement Agency with Ten, which Arnold Schwarzenegger is attached to star in. Ten finds an elite DEA strike team assembling to raid a drug cartel’s safe house. But while it appears above board, the action is actually the cover-up for the theft of millions in illegal merchandise. The team members (including, we assume, Schwarzenegger, unless he’s playing the big villain) think they’ve gotten away with it, but then they’re picked off one by one…Ayer isn’t actually writing this one – that job went to A-Team scribe Skip Woods. And Woods is connected to another upcoming Schwarzenegger project, Black Sands, which has Act Of Valour’s Mike McCoy and Scott Waugh directing. »

Arnold Schwarzenegger Will Tackle 'Ten'

Now that Arnold Schwarzenegger's reign of California has ended, he's jumped back into the Hollywood fray with a vengeance. The latest project he's added to his crowded dance card is "Ten," an actioner about DEA agents, drug dealers, and down low dirty schemes.

There are plenty of tough guys behind the scenes, too. "Ten" will be directed by David Ayer, who also directed "End of Watch" with Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena. Skip Woods, who wrote "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," "The A-Team," and "A Good Day to Die Hard," wrote the original screenplay.

Of course, we knew it was only a matter of time that the Governator would be back onscreen once he appeared in all his cigar-chomping glory in "The Expendables."
