The Mummy Reboot Lands Director Len Wiseman

24 September 2012 4:55 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Total Recall director Len Wiseman is finalizing a deal to direct The Mummy reboot for Universal Pictures. We first reported on this project back in April, when Prometheus writer Jon Spaihts signed on to provide the screenplay.

Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman are producing through their K/O Paper Products, along with Sean Daniel and James Jacks. Here's what Len Wiseman had to say about the project, revealing there is a much scarier take on the classic monster.

"When I first heard Universal was relaunching this, that is the image that popped into my head, the period tale, the old monster, but when Bob and Alex pitched it, there was a great new take and approach, and a very different mummy as well. It's a darker twist on the material, a scarier version."

Len Wiseman previously worked with Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman when he directed the pilot episode of their CBS series Hawaii Five-0. »

12 July 2012 6:35 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

It was announced this week that Michael Fassbender will be starring and producing Ubisoft’s movie adaption of Assassin’s Creed. That’s great news because among other things it means that the film hasn’t fallen into movie limbo. Now that a lead actor has been attached, Ubisoft Motion Pictures (the indie studio that Ubisoft created to turn their game into a film) is looking at getting a screen writer and a director on board. Meanwhile, nerds everywhere are asking themselves “so who else are they gonna cast in the movie?” Since it’s gonna be awhile before there’s an official answer, we’d like to offer up our wish list of who we’d want to see on screen.

Right off the bat we should point out that this article is particularly speculative because there’s been no word yet on which game the movie will draw from for its plot. »

The Mummy Gets Reboot from Prometheus Writer Jon Spaihts

4 April 2012 2:14 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Universal Pictures is looking to reboot The Mummy franchise once again, with Prometheus screenwriter Jon Spaihts penning the first draft of the script.

The Mummy was rebooted in 1999, with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz starring in a more family-friendly version of the 1932 genre classic. It spawned the sequels The Mummy Returns and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, all of which took in over $400 million worldwide. Here's what Jon Spaihts had to say about bringing The Mummy back to its original horror roots.

"I see it as the sort of opportunity I had with Prometheus, to go back to a franchise's roots in dark, scary source material, and simultaneously open it up to an epic scale we haven't seen before."

Sean Daniel, who produced all three The Mummy movies, will return as a producer. No production schedule was given.

The Mummy was released May 7th, 1999 and stars Brendan Fraser, »

There are many, many lines you never want to hear when someone ends a relationship — “it’s not you, it’s me” is probably in the top 3. But, as we’ve seen in the past with movies revolving around doomed relationships, they tend to make a lot of money. Variety has just reported that Vivica A. Screenwriter Nathan Ives is making his directorial debut, helming a comedy that tells the story of “a thirty-something commitment-phobe who breaks up with the love of his life thanks to conflicting advice from his outrageous, inner voices — and says the only thing he can think of to soften the blow: ‘It’s not you, it’s me.’” Carter (Justified) will be playing the role of the ex-girlfriend, whose »
