Patty Duke Honored by Friends, Family at Idaho Memorial Service: 'She Had Courage Like No One I've Ever Known'

On Saturday, the world said goodbye to Patty Duke. The Oscar-winning actress, who died in late March at 69, was honored at a memorial service in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, where she had built a peaceful life over the last 30 years alongside husband Mike Pearce and their four dogs (and where she was known, simply, as Anna, her birth name). The public service, at Lake City Church, was attended by friends and family alike. Melissa Gilbert, who starred alongside Duke in 1979's The Miracle Worker, said, "From the moment we met, we were thick as thieves and we remained that way for 40 years. »

Michelle Monaghan has joined previously announced J.K. Simmons, Mark Wahlberg, and John Goodman on CBS Films and Lionsgate’s Boston Marathon bombing drama Patriots Day, which has begun filming in Boston. Monaghan will play Carol Saunders, the wife of Sergeant Tommy Saunders, played by Wahlberg. Both are composite characters.

Peter Berg will direct Patriots Day. CBS Films handles production and marketing while Lionsgate will distribute the film. The partners are co-financing the feature, set to open in the Us on December 21. The cast includes Jimmy O. Yang, Vincent Curatola, and James Colby.

Patty Duke, who became an iconic teenage star with legions of fans from her hit TV series The Patty Duke Show, passed away earlier today at the age of 69. Her rep Mitchell Stubbs confirmed to ABC News that the actress died from sepsis from a ruptured intestine. Here's what the actress' family had to say in a statement about Patty Duke's passing.

Patty Duke, who became synonymous with chipper teenhood as the star of The Patty Duke Show, has died. She was 69.

Duke, whose real name was Anna Pearce, is best known for playing the dual roles of Patty and Cathy on her eponymous ABC sitcom, which ran from 1963-66.

ABC News reports that the actress died of sepsis from a ruptured intestine.
