Hangman Review

21 February 2016 10:51 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Hangman may be just another down-and-dirty found footage flick at heart, but Adam Mason’s SXSW Midnighter turns the mundane format into a nightmarish invasion of privacy. His killer, whose calling card is that of a noose-tightener, plays the long game here. Action isn’t rushed and pacing is drawn out like taffy, but Mason’s meticulous dissection of a first-hand home invasion works where other equal efforts become dull and gimmicky. Families should feel safe together, but Hangman warps feelings of barricaded tranquility into voyeuristic naughtiness caught on the camera of a reckless stalker. He sees you when your sleeping, he knows when you’re awake, yet the “Hangman” is no Santa Claus – unless you consider backwash in your Oj a present.

Told through the eyes of a mask-wearing figure known as “Hangman” (Eric Michael Cole), we watch helplessly as the crazed psycho torments an unsuspecting family. Aaron (Jeremy Sisto »

Review: Hangman

13 February 2016 1:39 PM, PST | iconsoffright.com | See recent Icons of Fright news »

The found footage approach to horror films has went through a great deal of scrutiny in the last few years, and rightfully so, there are a greater number of misses than hits. Films tend to fall into the same ol’ formula and cliche-filled pitfalls, with the “We need to document this!” line spoken more times than it hasn’t been. Luckily, Adam Mason’s Hangman bypasses many of those cliches and offers horror fans a truly chilling and downright scary experience that will refuse to exit your mind for quite some time following its final act.

What makes Hangman so interesting right from the get-go, is how almost dirty it feels. Instead of some family member or friend manning a video camera like every other film of its type, we’re given the entire film through the many hidden camera placed in the home of a family led by Jeremy Sisto (Clueless, »

Inspired By True Story Film Hangman Heading to DVD/Bluray This February!!

11 January 2016 12:44 PM, PST | iconsoffright.com | See recent Icons of Fright news »

I’m a sucker for films that hold the “Inspired by True Events” stamp on them. Sure, most of them are Very far from what the source crime happened to be, but still, it’s the quickest way to instantly get under my skin for a terrifying time. It’s with that approach that filmmaker Adam Mason’s Hangman sets genre fans up for a big scare, telling the story of a couple being stalked by an intruder and the events that follow. Led by Amy Smart (The Butterfly Effect, Crank, Road Trip), Jeremy Sisto (Wrong Turn, TV’s “Wicked City”) and Kate Ashfield (Shaun of the Dead, The War Zone, Secret Smile), Hangman is set to hit DVD/Bluray on February 9th, via Alchemy.

Returning from vacation, the Miller family find their home has been broken into. After cleaning up the mess they continue with their lives, shaking off the feeling of being violated. »
