'RuPaul's Drag Race: Reunited!': 'The Drag Race may be over, but the real drama is just getting started...'

RuPaul crowned Raja America’s Next Drag Superstar one week ago, and last night found Ru bringing the season’s 13 queens back together for the requisite reunion. “Tonight on RuPaul’s Drag Race: Reunited!” our palatable host thundered at the beginning of the episode, “our 13 drag warriors return to battle it out, set the record straight, and let each other have it.” Or to get more to the point, Ru added: “The Drag Race may be over, but the real drama is just getting started.” It was an often funny, not-too-heated hour that found the queens bringing some realness »

The Origin of “BriWi”

30 April 2011 9:19 AM, PDT | Mediaite - TV | See recent Mediaite - TV news »

In this week's New York magazine, John Swansbourg takes an entertaining look at the deft comic stylings of NBC News Anchor Brian Williams and how he has developed a legitimate side career in comedy. As one who was an early chronicler of same (see: SNL maiden voyage, Colbert WristStrong stunt, Jon Stewart spar-fests, earnestly following up on a 2005 quip about Bea Arthur). I appreciated seeing how Swansbourg traced his gestation from anchor-who-hosts-lots-of-dinners to legit Omg-is-this-a-residuals-check? funnyman. And it's nice to see BriWi no longer apologizing for cracking a few jokes outside the 6:30 - 7pm timeslot. Good times all around. »

Read Steve Martin's Handwritten, Personal Response To A Fan

26 March 2011 11:50 AM, PDT | | See recent Cinema Blend news »

With the rise of twitter, reaching out to your favorite celebrity has become easier than ever. Back in the old days though, people used to write letters, and if you ever tried to write Bea Arthur to tell her how much you loved Maude, well odds are you didn.t get back the response you wanted. The truth is that even on twitter, famous people only have so much time, and they just can.t respond personally to every single person who contacts them. That.s not true of Steve Martin. Though one of America.s most famous comedic minds, and the kind of guy who.s almost certainly deluged on a daily basis by truckloads of fan mail, he takes the time to respond to his fans with very personal letters. That.s just the kind of guy he is. Roger Ebert managed to get a hold of one »

Oscars' 'In Memoriam' segment gets it wrong again

28 February 2011 10:30 AM, PST | Shadowlocked | See recent Shadowlocked news »

It may sound a touch morbid, but one of the segments that I look forward to the most during every Oscar broadcast is the Academy's 'In Memoriam' spot. It is an important and necessary moment for cinema fans to remember and reflect upon those great movie-makers that have passed away over the previous year, whether in front of the camera or behind it. For every new Ellen Page or Hailee Steinfeld that begins a promising young career, there is a Leslie Nielsen or Dennis Hopper that sadly shuffles off their mortal coil forever, leaving wistful memories and brilliant catalogs of their wonderful work in film.

It is for that reason - memory - that the 'In Memoriam' portion of the show is crucial to the celebration as a whole. While the film-loving community congratulates those that represent the best that film-making has to offer, another group - the men and »

Watch: Betty White does a birthday shot with David Letterman

19 January 2011 4:09 AM, PST | Nerve | See recent Nerve news »

What is there really to say about Betty White at this point? You can only call someone awesome so many times before you start sounding plain boring. So without further ado, this is a clip of Betty White doing a shot of vodka with David Letterman to celebrate her eighty-ninth birthday: My God, I'm sure I would be so tired if I were Betty White. I'm tired now just thinking about all the stuff she does and I've barely even put on real clothes today. But that is why she's getting a comic book made of her life and I'm using an unpacked box of textbooks as an end table. Side note: The Golden Girls must have had some amazing casting directors to find four leads who were all so undeniably kick-ass. For instance, did you know that Bea Arthur was a Marine in [...] »
