Robin Williams visited France to support his cyclist pal Lance Armstrong's bid for an eighth Tour de France title.
The Mrs. Doubtfire funnyman arrived in the country to watch the ninth stage of the famous race as competitors battled to complete the tough stretch from Saint Gaudens to Tarbes.
And Williams took time out of cheering on Armstrong to pay tribute to the cancer survivor's determination to reclaim his crown as Tour de France's champion.
He told reporters, "He's a great friend and it's great to hang out with him. It's wild to see him back on the Tour.
"You'd think after seven wins he'd think 'c'est fini', but no, he is back for one more time. That is pretty ballsy. To race the Giro d'Italia and the Tour of California already this year, it's kind of great and he is doing it for many reasons which is wonderful to see."
Williams isn't Armstrong's only Hollywood pal to come and watch him from the sidelines - actor and Dodgeball co-star Ben Stiller supported the athlete in Marseilles last week.

As of this writing, Lance Armstrong trails in the Tour de France by only eight seconds. Not bad for a 37-year-old guy who hasn't ridden in that race in a few years. But the seven-time champ may be returning to another old stomping ground: Yahoo! reports that Ben Stiller is pitching Armstrong to sign up for a sequel to Dodgeball.
If you'll recall, Armstrong had a cameo in Dodgeball, encouraging Vince Vaughn to return to the tournament. It's not great news that Stiller is the one pushing for Armstrong's return, since Stiller was the worst thing about the first movie.
Armstrong Tweeted the news on Thursday: "Ben and I in the bus pre-race. In discussions re: the Dodgeball sequel. Could be huge."

According to Yahoo, Lance Armstrong has been meeting with Ben Stiller to discuss a possible "Dodgeball" sequel. Armstrong blamed one of these meetings for being late for a sign-in at the Tour de France. He apologized to the fans and event organizers and later wrote on his Twitter account: "Sorry we were late for the sign on this am. It was Stiller's fault!!" The site added that the sequel will "be infused with cycling influences." In the original, Armstrong appeared as himself to lay a guilt trip on Vince Vaughn. Check out his clip from the movie below. Lance Armstrong is a better person than you are. Sure, you can go on and on about how he may have taken performance-enhancing drugs and such but even so, do you have cancer? Even if you do, have you won seven consecutive championships in whatever it is you do? Probably not. And not only that but the dude has a sense of humor too. With only several lines, he was able to become one of the best parts of Dodgeball, even with an all-star comedy cast. Now he.s looking to take over that series like he took over the Tour de France. Moviehole picked up a story from Yahoo (which has since vanished... mysteriously) in which they claimed that Ben Stiller recently had a meeting with Armstrong to discuss a possible part in Dodgeball 2. Later on Armstrong seemed to confirm, at the least, that he was hanging out with

Ben Stiller met cyclist Lance Armstrong to discuss a potential Dodgeball sequel earlier this week, say reports. Armstrong cameoed in the 2004 comedy, but Stiller apparently wants the seven-times Tour de France winner to have a large role in a potential follow-up. According to Yahoo, the new film is likely to be "infused with cycling influences". It has also been suggested that Vince Vaughan and Chuck Norris, who appeared in the original, will be replaced by George (more)

Buried in a story about the Tour de France at Yahoo Sport is the suggestion that Ben Stiller is attempting to sign Lance Armstrong up for "a proposed sequel to Dodgeball".Armstrong has a cameo in the original, in which he lays a guilt trip on Vince Vaughn that persuades him to get back on the court.Armstrong was late signing in for yesterday's racing, and cheerfully blamed Stiller. Yahoo's story claims that Dodgeball 2 will bear a strong cycling influence; that George Hincaple will replace Vince Vaughn; and that Jens Voigt will take Chuck Norris' role. This is presumably cycling humour. Ho ho, eh readers?

Ben Stiller showed his support for pal Lance Armstrong on Monday when he dropped in on the cycling champ to offer words of encouragement ahead of the latest stage of the Tour de France.
The actor and his wife Christine Taylor befriended Armstrong when the athlete made a cameo appearance in their 2004 movie Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story.
They have remained in contact ever since, and the Stillers travelled to Marseille in France over the weekend to cheer on Armstrong as he competed for his eighth Tour de France title.
Stiller was even treated to a trip on Armstrong's Astana team bus as the cyclist discussed strategy plans with his colleagues ahead of the third stage of the competition.
And the funnyman was thrilled with his visit: "I'm a big Lance fan. It's my first time on the Tour. It's the real deal here. I'm very excited. I tried to give him some pointers, but I don't think it was very helpful. He is incredible."

The speedy cyclist may have had his own chances to shine on the big screen, most notably when he shamed Vince Vaughn's Peter La Fleur in Dodgeball, but it's time for Lance Armstrong to get his biopic. The Hollywood Reporter posts in a surprisingly short news blip that the athlete's cinematic story might finally be coming out of gestation. An unnamed writer "well-versed in sports comeback stories" has signed on, and production could kick into gear early next year.
It's about time. There's only so many times one can watch Breaking Away before they want something new, and Armstrong's story is not only ripe for a bio, it's also a ridiculously recognizable story. There aren't many athletes who become as recognizable outside their sport as the cancer-beating cyclist. He beat the disease out of his testicles, lungs, abdomen, and brain, and went on to break records and win the

Looks like the long-gestating biopic of ace cyclist Lance Armstrong might be about to move up through the gears, after Gary Ross came on board to write the screenplay.Ross, of course, is no stranger to inspiring sports-related stories – he wrote and directed the horsey drama, Seabiscuit. And now, for his next trick, he’s got to write the extraordinary tale of Armstrong, who stunned and inspired millions around the world when he cameoed in Dodgeball back in 2004.At least, we think that’s why he’s famous. It couldn’t possibly have anything to do with the seven successive Tour De France wins, achieved despite being stricken by, in his own words, brain, lung and testicular cancer, all at the same time. Could it…?Of course it bloody well could. Armstrong’s story is astonishing, uplifting, add your own adjective here. It seems a natural fit for a movie,

How optimistic is Michael J. Fox? So optimistic he found a silver lining in Rush Limbaugh accusing him of faking his Parkinson's symptoms.
Fox, whose ABC special Adventures of an Incurable Optimist features Lance Armstrong, Bonnie Hunt, Bill Murray, Tracy Pollan and others talking about hope, said on The View that Limbaugh's 2006 comments proved to be a boon to stem cell research.
"He did us a great favor because he put a lot of attention on the conversation," Fox said Thursday. "We could hijack the last two weeks of the political season."

Cycling champion Lance Armstrong is offering a reward for the safe return of his one-of-a-kind racing bike after it was stolen at the weekend.
The athlete broke the news on social networking website Twitter on Sunday morning, explaining how the custom-painted Trek time-trial bicycle was one of four that had been swiped from a truck outside his hotel in Sacramento, California.
Armstrong is in the state competing in the Amgen Tour of California with Team Astana, and had ridden his black and yellow bike just hours before it was taken.
Writing an appeal to fans on the site, he says, "There is only one like it in the world, therefore hard to pawn it off. Reward being offered."
The sports star was due to ride the bike on Sunday afternoon, but he and his three teammates had to make do with replacements.
Armstrong has not specified the amount of the reward.

Forget pretty ponies or science homework, Kate Hudson reveals in the new Elle that something else was on her teenage mind. "When I was a teenager, like, when I turned 16, I loved boys. That was just my thing," says the Bride Wars actress. "I still love boys." (This may or may not explain her romances with Owen Wilson, Lance Armstrong and Dax Shepard.) As an adult, she seems to have learned much from her mom, Goldie Hawn, about the proper care and feeding of a relationship. "People think that you can put your sexual life on hold, but you have to find time for it. Without that relationship, our family is broken. My mom really implanted that in me when I was...
