Fall frontman rejected invitation to replace John Lydon in third series of reality TV show
Mark E Smith turned down the opportunity to join Katie Price and Peter Andre in the jungle. The Fall frontman has revealed that he was invited to replace John Lydon in the third series of I'm a Celebrity ... Get Me Out of Here in 2004.
"I was asked years ago when Johnny ... was on it," Smith told the Quietus. "The bloke from the jungle [came] in and [said], 'Johnny Lydon's just left the jungle – do you want to replace him?' But I said no. I don't know what the point of that story is but there you go."
Lydon – better known as the Sex Pistols' Johnny Rotten – quit the reality show on day 11 of the third series, fleeing the company of Lord Brocket, Kerry McFadden (now Katona) and BBC correspondent Jennie Bond. He was never officially replaced. »

Oh my gosh! Garrulous Stacey Solomon winning I'm a Celebrity . . . Get Me Out of Here!, Basildon-born Kara Tointon triumphing in Strictly Come Dancing and painter and decorator Matt Cardle victorious in The X Factor completes an annus mirabilis – and no, that's not a beauty treatment connected to a vajazzle – for Essex.
Solomon immediately announced she couldn't wait to return to Dagenham and celebrate with a Malibu and pineapple down the pub. And why not? Dagenham itself has had an epic year. First it was immortalised in Nigel Cole's film Made in Dagenham about the 1968 strike for equal pay by women workers at Ford, with theme lyrics by Barking's Billy Bragg. And then came rapper Devlin, turning Dagenham into a British version of Eminem's Detroit. »

John Dugdale discerns some palpable hits among the duds
Last year's showbiz autobiographies brought the genre into disrepute: the public sensibly shunned insipid efforts from TV stars they were assumed to adore; booksellers complained sales too often failed to match the hype because the market had been flooded with mediocrity; and the high dud-to-hit ratio forced chastened publishers to reassess the merits of flinging money annually at a handful of B-listers in the hope that one will produce a book that matches the million-selling success of Peter Kay's The Sound of Laughter.
Expectations (and no doubt advances) are accordingly lower for the class of 2010, who have come up with a variety of responses to the perennial problem: how do you write about fame and other celebrities?
Pre-fame only. Problem solved: you don't. A popular tactic, since it worked for Kay, which is this year best represented by Paul O'Grady. »

Model and reality TV star accuses controversial comic of being a 'bully' towards her disabled son on Channel 4 show
Katie Price's complaint about Frankie Boyle's Channel 4 show is to be investigated by media regulator Ofcom after a joke he made about her son Harvey was described by her lawyers as "exceptionally discriminatory, offensive, demeaning and humiliating".
Price accused the comic of being a "bully" after he made a joke about her and her eight-year-old son, who suffers from septo-optic dysplasia and autism.
In the second episode of Frankie Boyle's Tramadol Nights, broadcast on Channel 4 at 10pm on Tuesday, the comic said: "Apparently Jordan and Peter Andre are fighting each other over custody of Harvey, well eventually one of them will lose and have to keep him." Boyle then made a obscene joke about her son.
Ofcom said it had received about 50 complaints, including one from Price, »

British model-turned-reality TV star Katie Price has called in her lawyers after a comedian told a series of sick jokes about her disabled son.
Referring to Price's battle with her ex-husband, singer Peter Andre, for custody of the child, Boyle said, "Eventually one of them will lose and have to keep him."
He also suggested Harvey - who is blind, autistic, and suffers from a condition that makes him gain weight easily - could be prone to attacking his mother.
Price was so disgusted by the remarks, she issued a statement blasting Boyle and is consulting her lawyer about the possibility of taking legal action.
She tells Britain's Daily Mail, "Harvey Price is a little miracle. Every day he overcomes so many difficulties with the help of family and medical experts and has so many tiny battles to win due to his medical problems and autism. I love him and am deeply proud to be his mother. If Mr Boyle had a 10th of his courage and decency he would know that to suggest, let alone think funny, that Harvey may sexually attack me is vile and deeply unfair...
"To bully this unbelievably brave child is despicable, to broadcast it on television is to show a complete and utter lack of judgment. I have asked my lawyers to write to Channel 4 on Harvey's behalf."
A spokeswoman for Andre adds, "Peter is angry and very upset at Harvey being mocked in this way. Children, especially a disabled youngster, should be off-limits."
A Channel 4 spokesman says, "Frankie Boyle is one of the highest profile comedians in the UK; he's well known for his controversial humour and the programme carried appropriate warnings as to the nature of the material. The joke aired in the context of a late night comedy show."
Harvey is Price's son from a previous relationship with footballer Dwight Yorke. »
Take Me Out host Paddy McGuinness has revealed that the show could have a one-off celebrity special. The ITV dating show's presenter told Digital Spy that single male celebrities - including Peter Andre and Keith Lemon - could face the 30 available females in what would be a charity special. "We've spoken about that," he admitted. "Perhaps a one-off special for charity and you could have single people (more) »

Katie Price and Peter Andre have declared that they are "absolutely disgusted and sickened" by a joke from comedian Frankie Boyle. The ex-couple were angered by a controversial gag on Boyle's Channel 4 show Tramadol Nights about Price's son Harvey - who is practically blind and suffers from a number of disabilities. On Tuesday night's programme, Boyle said: "Jordan and Peter Andre are still fighting each other over custody of Harvey - eventually one of them will lose and have to keep him." He went on to say: "I have a theory about the reason Jordan married a cage fighter - she needed a man strong enough to stop Harvey from f**king her." According to the Daily Star, Price said: "Harvey Price is a little miracle. Every day he overcomes so many difficulties and has so many battles to win due to his medical (more) »
