Danish-born Gwili Andre was a blonde beauty who had the talent and the looks necessary for the big time, but somehow just couldn't put everything together and was mired in B pictures (e.g., Secrets of the French Police, Roar of the Dragon) for most of her career. Her death in 1959 was a bizarre suicide after years of alcoholism and failed attempts to revive her stalled career. Alone in her Venice, California apartment she gathered together reams of publicity stills and promotional material from her early career and set it alight, allowing herself also to be consumed by the flames.
