Some of Hollywood’s top dogs including Danny Strong, Cary Fukunaga and Bruce Altman were out to celebrate the New York premiere of the crime drama “Ozark” Thursday night. The project is Jason Bateman second with Netflix, after the revival of comedy cult favorite “Arrested Development” in 2013.

Also starring Laura Linney, the show follows the Byrde family. Marty (Bateman), a Chicago financial advisor has been quietly laundering money for a drug cartel for years. After his partner runs afoul, the entire family is uprooted and arrives in a lazy resort town around the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri, where Marty promises to clean money for the drug lord.

“I was looking for something to challenge myself because I had a really good time directing ‘Bad Words’ and ‘The Family Fang,’” said Bateman, who also got behind the camera for several episodes. “This came along and the notion to executive produce, which »

Film Review: ‘Fifty Shades Darker’ is More Silly Than Sexy

10 February 2017 7:24 AM, PST | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – While offering a veritable sex scene smorgasboard, “Fifty Shades Darker” fails to offer much in the way of anything that is actually sexy. As the mousy Anastasia Steele and the billionaire Mr. Grey, Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan are slightly more comfortable in their roles than they were the first time around.

..but they continue to have all the sexual chemistry of a couple on a first date that isn’t going particularly well. And that’s a problem, since sexual chemistry and S&M is what this housewife fantasy series is all about.

Rating: 2.0/5.0

As we begin the second installment of the Fifty Shades trilogy, Anastasia has left her dominating lover and is starting a new life in that favorite industry of screenwriters everywhere, publishing. But Mr. Grey has not gone quietly into the good night. He follows her, has private detectives create a dossier on her, gets her bank account information, »

Movie Review – Fifty Shades Darker (2017)

9 February 2017 8:00 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Fifty Shades Darker, 2017.

Directed by James Foley

Starring Dakota Johnson, Jamie Dornan, Bella Heathcote, Eric Johnson, Eloise Mumford, Rita Ora, Luke Grimes, Victor Rasuk, Max Martini, Bruce Altman, Marcia Gay Harden, and Kim Basinger.

Synopsis:

While Christian wrestles with his inner demons, Anastasia must confront the anger and envy of the women who came before her.

There is absolutely potential to tell a compelling narrative following a person battling squashing inner sadistic sexual desires in an effort to successfully maintain a normal, healthy relationship. Fifty Shades Darker (and the entire franchise for that matter based on novels written by E.L James) is not that movie. The jigsaw puzzle that is Christian Grey’s (Jamie Dornan) traumatic past and abnormal personality are shoved to the side far too often when that theme should be front and center. I’m all for equal opportunity nudity and certainly won’t complain about »
