Liar’s Dice to open Chicago South Asian Film Fest, Ankhon Dekhi to close

The Chicago South Asian Film Festival, to be held between September 18th and 21st, will open with Geethu Mohandas’ Liar’s Dice. The film has Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Geetanjali Thapa in lead roles and was screened at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.

Amit Kumar’s Monsoon Shootout will be the centerpiece film of the festival. Agneya Singh’s  M Cream will be screened as the Friday night feature. Rajat Kapoor’s Ankhon Dekhi  will close the Festival on Sunday evening.

“M Cream” named Best Film at Rhode Island International Film Festival

M Cream, a debut feature by Agneya Singh, was named the Best feature film at the 18th Rhode Island International Film Festival. The film had its world premiere as the closing film of the festival.

Actors Ira Dubey, Auritra Ghosh, Raaghav Chanana along with director Agneya Singh  received the prize at the festival.

Shot in New Delhi and Himachal Pradesh, M Cream features Imaad Shah, Ira Dubey, Tom Alter, Barry John and Auritra Ghosh.

M Cream revolves around “a motley crew of university students who set out on a journey in the pursuit of a mythical form of hashish, confronting a series of encounters that begin to unravel the myriad realities of rebellion.”

Director Agneya Singh is a graduate of the Tisch School of the Arts, New York University.

The Rhode Island International Film Festival will also screen Points of Origin (India), a short film directed by Anya Leta, which explores the emotional conflicts of an American couple while attempting to have a baby with a surrogate mother in India. »

Tom Alter smitten by 'beauty of Urdu'

Malegaon (Maharashtra), Jan 5: Thespian Tom Alter said that he learnt Urdu from his American Christian missionary father and read the Holy Bible in the language during his childhood days.

Alter recited five verses from the Bible in fluent Urdu in front of a huge and surprised audience, which roared in approval, at the inaugural of the All India Urdu Book Fair held as part of the 10-day Urdu Festival here Saturday night.

"How can Urdu belong to Muslims or any other particular religion when it described God's message with such beauty," Alter said, dismissing wrongly-held contentions that the Urdu language belongs to the Muslim. »
