Peter Stomare Finds Clown

17 November 2012 10:01 AM, PST | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Even as he returns to full directing duties for his latest chiller, The Green Inferno, Eli Roth isn’t neglecting his other passion: rodeo clowning. Sorry, that’s not quite true. We meant producing other people’s projects. But a clown is involved, as Peter Stomare and Laura Allen have joined the horror pic Clown.Director Jon Watts, who co-wrote the script with CD Ford, is busy directing the film. It follows a father (Andy Powers) who hits a problem when the entertainer he hired for his son’s birthday cancels.Donning a clown outfit himself, he suddenly finds that he can’t take it off – and that there’s a terrible curse attached to it. You know, besides the obvious downside that clowns are freaky and terrifying.Allen will be playing the man’s wife, while Stomare is on as an expert in clown lore, because apparently such weirdoes really exist. »

Awake‘s few but hugely passionate viewers came away from Thursday’s series finale with many questions. Of course, we’re still wondering which reality was in fact real. But also: What did the final scene mean? Was it all but a dream? Or was that dream-come-true moment in fact Michael Britten’s biggest nightmare? And what twists were on tap for the Season 2 we sadly never shall see? (Hint: baby versus babe!) TVLine invited series creator Kyle Killen to field some burning questions.

'Awake' Season 2: Does the NBC series still have a shot at another season?

24 May 2012 10:35 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

NBC's "Awake" went from mind-bending to mind-blowing in its Season 1 finale on Thursday (May 24), which also marks the show's series finale. The Kyle Killen-created series was among those that got the axe from NBC in May.

Jason Isaacs starred as Michael Britten, a man living in two realities -- one in which his wife (Laura Allen) survives a car accident while his son (Dylan Minnette) died and another in which the opposite is true. While an innovative concept, it may have been too clever for its own good. The show debuted to around 6 million viewers but steadily declined week after week, falling to around 2 million viewers just before its cancellation.

Fans of the show are hoping "Awake" can find a second life on another network, but Killen doesn't sound optimistic.

"We're open to another home for the show but the chances are extraordinarily remote, so it's probably best to »

'Awake' series finale: Which one of Michael Britten's realities is all a dream?

24 May 2012 3:55 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

"Awake" creator Kyle Killen and star Jason Isaacs have both said all along that one of Michael Britten's realities is a dream -- either the one in which his wife (Laura Allen) survived a car accident but his son (Dylan Minnette) died or the one in which the reverse is true. And Thursday (May 24), fans will hopefully get a satisfying answer to the single-season series' mystery during the finale airing at 10 p.m. on NBC.

"We left nothing off the table," Isaacs tells EW.com. "It feels like a real ending. Nobody who's watched the show is going to come up and want their money back in the street."

Anyone expecting a definitive answer to "Which one of these realities is real?" may be wanting their viewing time back, though, as Killen hints that we probably won't get one.

"The episode certainly feeds one of those theories," Killen says. "When we wrote the episode, »

The Who, What, When, Where, And Why Of Awake’s Cancellation

19 May 2012 7:59 AM, PDT | Boomtron | See recent Boomtron news »

Or, why I’ll never be fooled by NBC again.

So, this is the last time that I will speak or write about Awake.  In fact, this might be the last time anybody issues any type of missive in regards to NBC’s most recent series cancellation.

To say that I had high hopes for Awake would be an exercise in understatement.  I’ve been slathering this show with praise since months before its premiere date was announced.  Now I will offer my reasons as to why I fell so hard for the show, and why it fell so hard once it aired.

Who is responsible for Awake‘s failure?

Well, it wasn’t my fault, that’s for goddamn sure.  And I’m pretty sure that it isn’t the fault of Kyle Killen, the series’ creator.  Killen had a novel concept for a series, which he equipped with a compelling structure. »

Awake: Cancelled; No Season Two

12 May 2012 10:19 AM, PDT | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

It's the nightmare NBC's Awake fans were dreading. NBC has cancelled the show after 13 episodes and one season.

Created by Kyle Killen (Lone Star), Awake revolves around a police detective (Jason Isaacs) who, after being in a horrific car accident, finds that he's living in two realities. In one, his son perished -- in the other, his wife did. The cast also includes Laura Allen, Steve Harris, Dylan Minnette, B. D. Wong, Michaela McManus, Wilmer Valderrama, and Cherry Jones.

The complex drama had an unimpressive debut back on March 1st, registering a 2.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.24 million viewers. NBC had released the pilot episode well in advance so some believed that hurt the premiere ratings.

Theoretically the second episode should have shown signs of growth but it didn't. Week two dropped 20%. Week three remained »

We Regret to Inform You: Awake Canceled

I thought of titling this post “Breaking Bad News” but figured some of you might have been misled. It is bad news, and it is breaking, and heartbreaking for those of us who have been loving the smart, layered, high concept, high quality Awake. NBC has made it known that there will be no Season 2.

Awake creator/showrunner Kyle Killen (Lone Star) was gracious in his tweet:

guys its cool. awake lasted 600% longer than lone star. at that rate next 1 be on until end of time. now, anyone know if Whitney is hiring?

Kyle Killen (@killen8) May 11, 2012

followed by:

that was not meant to be shot at Whitney #promise #justlookingforplacetotakeairmattress

Kyle Killen (@killen8) May 11, 2012

Awake: 5 Reasons Why Viewers Need to Open Their Eyes and Watch This Great Series

Awake: 5 Reasons Why Viewers Need to Open Their Eyes and Watch This Great Series

NBC's Awake, which airs Thursday nights at 10/9c, has been one of the best new shows of 2012. However, the series, which was created by Kyle Killen, who made the short-lived but critically acclaimed Lone Star, still struggles to find an audience despite its fantastic writing and brilliant performances. Here are five reasons why people should tune in to Awake this Thursday.

The Concept: The incredibly unique universe of Awake allows viewers to see Michael Britten (Jason Isaacs), a Los Angeles police detective, interact with his son in one reality and his wife in another, after a terrible car crash the family endures. In one outcome of the accident, Michael’s son, Rex (Dylan Minnette), has died but his wife, Hannah (Laura Allen), lives; in the other, Hannah is dead while Rex is alive. Throughout all »

‘Awake’ Season 1, Episode 10: ‘Slack Water’ Recap

4 May 2012 6:26 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Considering last week’s strangely apathetic episode, it is good to see Awake back to a place where things seem to matter to its characters. Perhaps that is why the reveal that Emma (Daniela Bobadilla) is pregnant with Rex’s (Dylan Minnette) child was saved until the very last moment of ‘Game Day‘: so that it would carry more weight after Britten (Jason Isaacs) had been getting used to seeing everything play out in two possible scenarios.

Now with ‘Slack Water,’ Britten and Hannah (Laura Allen) are faced with the fact that they’ll soon be grandparents, and naturally, their interest in Emma stems from wanting to have a role in their grandchild’s life. However, complications arise after Emma reveals she’s in line with her parents’ “progressive” thinking and plans to give the child up for ...

'Awake' creator Kyle Killen on challenges of juggling parallel lives [Video]

30 April 2012 12:14 AM, PDT | Gold Derby | See recent Gold Derby news »

"I've known I wanted to be a writer since middle school," says Kyle Killen, though he adds, "I guess in the sense that you say you're a writer once you start being paid for it, it's been about four years." His first produced screenplay was the Jodie Foster-directed black comedy "The Beaver," and for TV he created and produced the Fox drama "Lone Star" and now NBC's police drama "Awake." This new series is about a detective (Jason Isaacs) living in two possible dream worlds following a life-altering car accident. In one world his wife (Laura Allen) survived the accident, while in the other his teenage son (Dylan Minnette) survived instead. The concept of duality is one that Killen has explored in each of his projects: "Lone Star" told the story of a con artist juggling two identities, and "The Beaver" was about a man in a psychological crisis living through a hand-puppet. »
