Poet, playwright, novelist and screenwriter Zoë Akins was born on the day before Halloween in 1886 in Humansville, Missouri. She was home-schooled before attending the Monticello Seminary in Godfrey, Illinois, and Hosmer Hall in St. Louis for her education.
