How Former Teen Idols Are Getting Second Lives on Ya Shows Like ‘Riverdale’ and ‘13 Reasons Why’

27 April 2017 2:36 PM, PDT | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

More than 30 years after enduring “16 Candles,” Molly Ringwald is heading back to the school dance, and “Riverdale” couldn’t be happier.

The former teen icon, known for her membership in the ‘80s Brat Pack and her John Hughes pedigree, guest stars on Thursday’s “Riverdale” as Archie’s mom Mary. She and her estranged husband Fred (Luke Perry) will be back together temporarily to see their son perform at the high school dance. While the casting was a natural fit because of Ringwald’s red hair, her teen star cred also helped. Both “Riverdale” and “13 Reasons Why” are two teen-centric shows that have been bringing back former teen stars to play the older generation, and reaping the benefits.

13 Surprising Connections Between the Cast of 13 Reasons Why

26 April 2017 2:20 PM, PDT | POPSUGAR | See recent BuzzSugar news »

Image Source: Netflix The cast of 13 Reasons Why may be young, but their résumés are long. While a few stars (like Katherine Langford) are just getting into the business, many of the members of the ensemble cast have been in Hollywood for years, and they've even starred in projects together before! I started digging into their past roles, and found 13 - that wasn't planned, I swear - interesting connections. Note: I'm not including the fact that they've almost all been on some iteration of Law & Order, because you could throw a pebble out the window and hit someone who's been on Law & Order. Image Source: ABC Grey's Anatomy: Kate Walsh, Dylan Minnette, Mark Pellegrino, Wilson Cruz, and Ajiona Alexus were all on Grey's Anatomy. Walsh was a recurring character, while the others turned up as guest stars. Minnette memorably played a boy with no ears. Private Practice: Walsh's character, »

Lane From Gilmore Girls Is in 13 Reasons Why, and It Blew My Mind

6 April 2017 2:50 PM, PDT | POPSUGAR | See recent BuzzSugar news »

Image Source: Everett Collection That gem of a lady above is Lane Kim, Rory's icon of a best friend in Gilmore Girls. She's played by Keiko Agena, who has gone on to appear in various TV shows like Shameless. Honestly, she'll always be Lane to me, which may be why I didn't register that she was in 13 Reasons Why until I was browsing the cast list on IMDb. I was already several episodes deep in the new show, which is why it was so embarrassing and also so mind-blowing. Here's the thing: at 43(!) years old, Agena is youthful Af, and the idea that she would be playing a teacher just didn't occur to me. She also has bangs and no signature Lane Kim glasses. Here she is as Mrs. Bradley, one of the teachers in the show: Image Source: Netflix I respect it, but I don't know if I like it. »

‘All I Want For Christmas’ Gets Animated

22 March 2017 2:00 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

It is said that if a Christmas goes by without every human (no matter what their religion) hearing and singing along to Mariah Carey‘s festive classic, All I Want For Christmas, then the world will end. Thankfully that’s never happened, and was made even less likely by the wonderfully uplifting cover featured in Love Actually. Now, just in case there are those younglings who haven’t quite taken up the tradition, the song is set to inspire its own CGI animated feature from Universal.

With Carey on board as an executive producer, and the plot focusing on a young girl who desires her own puppy, you can look for it this holiday season on DVD from Universal 1440 Entertainment. Being familiar with the lyrics, they may just need to change a few ‘baby’s to ‘puppy’s.
