Emily S. Whitten: Awesome Con Round Up

17 August 2017 1:00 PM, PDT | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

Sweet Christmas, everyone – this year’s Awesome Con was busy as all get-out and chock-full of cool things to see and do, and con season is rushing by so fast that I’m just now getting to my recap! (We can also blame the con crud for this, alas. It’s been following me around for a solid month.) As always, there were way more activities than one mere mortal could get to. And on top of that, this was the first year where I really saw multiple events surrounding the con that were either not directly affiliated with the con but inspired by it, or connected to it but not part of the main con experience.

So let’s start there. First off, I was part of a pre-con round-table interview Awesome Con set up with the inestimable Stan Lee. Stan answered many great questions. He talked about what »

Amy Sedaris is a Singing Martha Stewart in First Look at ‘At Home with Amy Sedaris’

27 July 2017 9:00 AM, PDT | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

If you ever thought that daytime lifestyle shows needed more of Jane Krakowski belting, then Amy Sedaris has some wonderful news for you.

truTV released the first look at Sedaris’ upcoming domestic design show satire “At Home with Amy Sedaris” on Thursday, and it’s the kind of surreal you’d expect from a show with her name on it.

At first, what seems like a simple Martha Stewart-esque dissection of crafts materials and interior sprucing becomes a full-fledged musical number with a handy mnemonic for using glue on different surfaces. Krakowski even gets to show off her Broadway chops in the process.

Why the Oscar-Winning Producer of ‘Big Hero 6’ Made Big-Screen Nature Documentary ‘Born In China’

21 April 2017 12:32 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

After winning the Oscar for 2014’s “Big Hero 6,” producer Roy Conli was lured to what seems to be a far-flung project: a Disneynature doc, “Born in China,” which explores the life cycles of wild pandas and other native Chinese wildlife. However, he said that it was less about the animals and more about their collective capacity to communicate complex emotions and ideas.

“I’ve always loved the structure of multiple stories,” said Conli, a longtime Disney Animation executive who famously mounted the premiere of “Angels in America” at the Mark Taper Forum in 1992. “There are multiple characters that you need to fall in love with, and they will add up to one story. That was the same with this. You had five species, but you concentrated on three animal families.”

Other Disneynature movies have had more singular topics (“Bears,” “Monkey Kingdom”), but director Lu Chuan’s “Born in China »

‘Talk Show the Game Show’ Trailer: Celebs Score Points by Being Good Talk Show Guests — Watch

13 March 2017 12:01 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Which celebrity will be win the coveted title of “Best Guest of the Night”?

That’s the question that TruTV’s “Talk Show the Game Show” asks when it premieres on April 5. When stars visit late-night talk shows to promote a project or themselves, they need to play nice to win over the host, Guy Branum (“Chelsea Lately,” “The Mindy Project”) and audience. “Talk Show the Game Show” awards them for these skills.

For example, points can be awarded for getting applause by naming a city, flashing the host, singing, using a euphemism instead of swearing and making the audience go, “Aww!”

But beware. Being a bad guest is “grounds for sanction,” whatever that means. (Can we vote for pie in the face?) Bad behaviors include excessive name dropping, white male fragility, being boring, failure »

Big Hero 6 The Animated Series Coming Next Year

6 January 2017 2:04 PM, PST | Cinelinx | See recent Cinelinx news »

Big Hero 6 is coming back as an animated series on Disney Xd. Come check this out for what we know so far.

Now when I wrote about the first teaser for Big Hero 6 the movie I was very pleased with the concept. Taking a little known Marvel comic and giving it a fresh look on screen was awesome. And it did real well with the fans proving that it was a good gamble. Back in November we were informed the film would get a sequel dubbed Big Hero 7 aimed at 2017 to 2019 for a release. But before that the 6 heroes will debut on the small screen as a Disney Xd show Big Hero 6 The Series debuting in Fall of 2017.

Now we don’t have much except the above teaser but what we do have is our cast for the show. Ryan Potter will reprise his role as Hiro Hamada, »
