‘Portlandia’: Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein Love Breakfast a Totally Reasonable Amount — Watch
Listen, breakfast is great. It’s so good people have invented an extension of breakfast so they can justify eating it later in the day. (“Brunch,” I’m looking right at you.) Obviously, people are fans.

And while we can commiserate with the desire to have the best breakfast as close by as possible, the good people of “Portlandia” — Peter (Fred Armisen) and Nance (Carrie Brownstein) — take “breakfast near me” to a whole new level in the sketch below. Rather than lay around dreaming of a great meal, this married couple crafts the perfect breakfast experience long before the morning sun rises.

‘Portlandia’: Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein Create the Next True Crime Podcast Sensation… Maybe
True crime podcasts are all the rage, but no one gets to see how the secrets are uncovered, cases are chosen, or mistakes are exposed. What matters is the story itself — how it sounds, not how it’s found.

Well, let’s hope it’s not like this.

In an exclusive look at Season 8, “Portlandia” stars and creators Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein pop into a Portland police station to record a podcast. While they’re welcomed in for an official visit, the two don’t exactly return the professionalism in kind. Their methods are peculiar, motivations less than pure, and end result not what anyone had in mind.

Turns out making a podcast may not be pretty, but it makes for a pretty good sketch. The video below is not only a new look at the final season, but the fourth in a series of videos premiering before the Season 8 debut.

‘Portlandia’ Season 8: Fred Armisen Lives Out Your Worst Sushi Nightmare in Exclusive Sketch — Watch

‘Portlandia’ Season 8: Fred Armisen Lives Out Your Worst Sushi Nightmare in Exclusive Sketch — Watch
When you see one chili on a sushi menu, you’re safe. Three is clearly very hot stuff, but two? Two could mean anything. Two could be just right — as its middle placement implies — or it could veer wildly into all-too-mild or far-too-spicy territory.

Fred Armisen learns this lesson the hard way in an exclusive sketch from the upcoming season of “Portlandia.” During a casual dinner with his wife (played by Carrie Brownstein), the couple is sent into a panic when learning just how spicy their sushi is labeled on the menu.

You gotta ask, Fred. You gotta ask.

‘Portlandia’ Season 8: Kath and Dave Highlight the Dos and Don’ts of Escape Rooms — Watch
Kath and Dave are two of Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen’s most intense creations. Whether they’re trying to save the human race (after a local power outage) or going out for tapas (and dancing on the table), this couple doesn’t do anything half-assed.

Add escape rooms to the list.

In IndieWire’s exclusive video below, Kath and Dave team up with two strangers to work an escape room. Needless to say, they’re not the best team players, though one could argue their intensity only helps in the end.

Marvel is Launching a Scripted Wolverine Podcast With Richard Armitage as Logan

Marvel has announced that they are launching a new scripted murder mystery podcast called Wolverine: The Long Night and Wolverine will be played by The Hobbit’s Richard Armitage. The series is being scripted by podcast writer Ben Percy and it's described as a blend of programs such as Serial, S-Town, True Detective, and Unforgiven. Percy explains:

“If you look at the success of Serial and S-Town, it has everything to do I think with their investigative formats, the way the listeners become complicit in the narrative. They’re co-authors, they’re literary detectives, because they’re piecing together the clues alongside the reporters, and I wanted to take a similar approach to that.”

As far as the story goes, it will follow two agents, "Sally Pierce (Celia Keenan-Bolger) and Tad Marshall (Ato Essandoh), who arrive in the fictional town of Burns, Alaska, to investigate a series of murders. The

‘Portlandia’: Carrie Brownstein Tackles Sexism at the Workplace in First Look at the Final Season — Watch
Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein are back for one final season of “Portlandia,” and they’re taking on the big issues before bowing out.

In the video below, Brownstein plays the first female partner at a male-dominated law firm. But before she can be properly welcomed to the family, the men of the room have a few quick questions for her. With sexism, sexual harassment, and sexual assault dominating headlines in multiple industries, it’s encouraging to see the sharply satiric creators of “Portlandia” addressing the issue head-on.

Here’s Why ‘Big Hero 6: The Series’ Looks Different Than the Movie
Big Hero 6” moves to the small screen on Monday night, swapping the 3D animation of the original for a more traditional, hand-drawn look. But other than its new look and different medium, the Disney Xd series aims to retain the key elements that made the original movie such a hit with audiences. From “Kim Possible” executive producers Bob Schooley and Mark McCorkle, “Big Hero 6: The Series” features much of the film’s voice cast, including stars Ryan Potter and Scott Adsit, and same cultural mash-up world of San Fransokyo. Most important to Schooley and McCorkle, however, was recapturing the film’s.

‘Big Hero 6: Baymax Returns’ Review: Often Hilarious, But Hardly Heartfelt

In 2014, Disney's CG-animated adaptation of Man of Action's Marvel comic Big Hero 6 surprised movie-going audiences with a hilarious, heart-warming, and incredibly heroic tale. Sure, Scott Adsit's inflatable caregiving robot Baymax stole the show, but just beneath the cute one-liners and sound effects was a mature story of loss, revenge, and redemption. Big Hero 6 was, at its core, about the relationship between Tadashi Hamada and his younger, 14-year-old brother Hiro, a relationship that's torn asunder when Tadashi sacrifices himself to save another. It's a moment that sets …

Amy Sedaris on the Biggest Challenge in Modern Comedy and Why Michael Shannon is So Darn Funny

Amy Sedaris on the Biggest Challenge in Modern Comedy and Why Michael Shannon is So Darn Funny
Amy Sedaris is a comedy legend thanks, in part, to Jerri Blank. When Sedaris was in her mid-30s, she originated the “Strangers With Candy” role, playing a 46-year-old high school freshman who looked like she was pushing 60. She was “a boozer, a user, and a loser,” and it showed.

Now, Jerri still shows herself in ways good and not so good.

“[Today people] recognize you from Jerri, which means I’m starting to look like Jerri Blank,” Sedaris said in an interview with IndieWire. “So [that] just makes you feel old.”

But with fake age comes real experience. Though her most famous character barely starts to tell the story of an acclaimed sketch performer, playwright, advice columnist, and author, the series and its effect on modern comedy is undeniable.

My 5: ‘StarTalk’ Host Neil deGrasse Tyson’s Favorite Comedians

My 5: ‘StarTalk’ Host Neil deGrasse Tyson’s Favorite Comedians
“For so many people, learning is a chore, but laughing is not. If we can combine learning with laughing, you can teach anybody, anything,” says famed American astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, who does exactly that as host of the National Geographic talk show StarTalk, which returns on Sunday, Oct. 1 with a new season of facts, laughs and plenty of A-list guests.

While the show regularly features scientific commentary and cosmic queries, it’s all delivered with a comedic punch. And in today’s polarizing political climate, Tyson says “it’s a comedian’s obligation to challenge social, cultural and political norms.” If they are not, then no one is being challenged to think, he adds.

So it makes sense then that so many funny people, including Ben Stiller, Jay Leno, Larry Wilmore and Whoopi Goldberg, have stopped by the show. “When a comedian is on the show as a guest, I don't seek

Emily S. Whitten: Awesome Con Round Up

  • Comicmix
Sweet Christmas, everyone – this year’s Awesome Con was busy as all get-out and chock-full of cool things to see and do, and con season is rushing by so fast that I’m just now getting to my recap! (We can also blame the con crud for this, alas. It’s been following me around for a solid month.) As always, there were way more activities than one mere mortal could get to. And on top of that, this was the first year where I really saw multiple events surrounding the con that were either not directly affiliated with the con but inspired by it, or connected to it but not part of the main con experience.

So let’s start there. First off, I was part of a pre-con round-table interview Awesome Con set up with the inestimable Stan Lee. Stan answered many great questions. He talked about what
