In tonight’s season finale of Private Practice, the Sam-Addison-Jake love triangle will “come to a head big time.” That’s what Paul Adelstein promises.
“There are a couple of cliffhangers — one really big one that had a lot of us gasping at the table read,” he reveals. “And it’s a very emotional episode across the board and definitely wraps some stories up and opens up a lot of new directions.”
And because of the show’s recent renewal, fans will get a chance to see those new story lines take flight. The show’s future was in limbo until Friday, »

Thank goodness "Private Practice" is officially coming back for a sixth season, because star Paul Adelstein tells Zap2it that the Season 5 finale, airing Tuesday, May 15 at 10 p.m. on ABC, is filled with multiple cliffhangers. " I don't think there's a lot of closure built into that finale," he admits. "There's a lot of stuff going on."
Obviously, a lot of the storyline will revolve around Amelia and what's going on with her baby (it's developing without a brain, and she decided to carry it to term and donate its organs to help other infants). At the beginning of the episode, everyone will find out. "There are very mixed opinions and very passionate opinions on both sides of that debate," Adelstein says. "Cooper feels pretty strongly that as horrible as it is, the opportunity to help save so many other children is worth it. Which is to a certain degree dispassionate. »

Consider yourselves warned, Private Practice fans: tonight's season finale won't be all sunshine and jelly beans.
The ABC drama takes on an even more serious tone than usual, as "Gone, Baby, Gone" features Amelia going into labor and the Seaside Wellness doctors all learning about her controversial decision regarding her child's organs.
Is it murder? Is it ethical? Watch the debate unfold in one of the two finale clips below:

Go ahead, take a deep breath and celebrate, Private Practice fans: this ABC drama has been renewed for a sixth season.
So, without the possibility of tomorrow night's "Gone, Baby, Gone" serving as a series finale, what can fans expect from the episode?
"Amelia goes into labor," Paul Adelstein told me on the phone last week. "And that's a big deal, obviously, given what she's going through… it will be revealed to everybody and there will be a disagreement over the ethics of that. Things get pretty heated."

Where will Cooper come down on the controversial topic?
"From a medical standpoint, he's such a child advocate," the actor said. "The upside of saving all those children really appeals to him."
Meanwhile, Cooper, Mason and Charlotte will continue "figuring out how to be a family," Adelstein said, acknowledging that his character's main storyline on season five »

For five seasons, "Private Practice" has concerned itself greatly with whether its lead character would have a baby. Addison Montgomery moved to Santa Monica to see her fertility-specialist friend, and after many trials and tribulations, including several rounds of fertility treatment and a failed adoption, she finally was approved for adoption two episodes ago.
So why is Addison, the world-renowned neonatal surgeon who went through so much to have a child, now putting her newborn son's life in danger? And, for that matter, why is "How I Met Your Mother's" furiously prepared dad-to-be Marshall Eriksen also exposing his forthcoming child to risk?
Last week's "Private Practice" and Monday's (April 30) "How I Met Your Mother" both featured scenes that, to parents of infants, set off tons of alarm bells. The "Himym" example was less egregious, so we'll get to that later. What aired on "Private Practice" was far worse, particularly »

Since Private Practice’s second season, the show has had a home on ABC’s Thursday nights, paired with mother ship Grey’s Anatomy, but tonight marks the show’s first time on Tuesday night. The shift to a new time slot does not scare star KaDee Strickland — and, most importantly, she doesn’t think it will scare off audiences.
“I personally think we have incredible fans that are very loyal to us, and I don’t think they’re going to mind coming to another night. We don’t mind it,” she says. “It’s one of those things »

"It's exciting! I've always wanted to see the doctors dance!" Paul Adelstein joked from the set of Private Practice shortly after learning that the series has been moved to Tuesdays following Dancing with the Stars.
In its fifth season, the ABC medical drama is moving from its long-time home on Thursdays following flagship series Grey's Anatomy to Tuesday nights at 10/9c. In its place, the network debuted new series Scandal from creator Shonda Rhimes, the woman also behind Grey's and Private.

Natalie: Erica's inevitable demise will be the first parenting challenge for Charlotte and Cooper. "Their principal concern is Mason's psychological well-being in dealing with her [death]," Paul Adelstein says. "He said goodbye to her, but she's still alive and he knows she's still alive, so as much resolution as there was, that actually causes some problems. Then they're going to have a grieving child, and they're going to be grieving themselves, so it's a big challenge for them."

Breaking news: A life is hanging in the balance tonight on Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice! Ok, so that pretty much happens every week, but this time, it's a very cool crossover appearing on both shows, and the life hanging in the balance is none other than Erica (A.J. Langer), aka the mother of Cooper's (Paul Adelstein) child. I hit the Grey's Anatomy set to chat up Langer and dreamiest little sister there ever was: Caterina Scorsone (Amelia Shepherd) for all the scoop on what goes down… Patrick [Dempsey] was saying how much he loves the Private Practice crew. You might have to keep him. Caterine Scorsone: It's a pretty dope set to work on. We have a bit of a lovefest »

There's been so much insanity on "Private Practice" this season -- not the least of which revolved around Cooper (Paul Adelstein) finding out that he has a son, Mason (Griffin Gluck), from a one-night stand he had eight years ago with Erica (A.J. Langer). The new members of their family have tested Cooper and Charlotte's (KaDee Strickland) relationship, but just when everyone was getting on the same page, they found out that Erica has a life-threatening illness that will require a very special surgery.
Who you gonna call? While there are plenty of great doctors at Oceanside Wellness, creator Shonda Rhimes loves any good reason to do a crossover with her other hit show, "Grey's Anatomy." This one brings Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) to Seattle Grace to scrub in with her brother Derek (Patrick Dempsey) and his new right-hand neuro lady Lexie (Chyler Leigh).
They've got a near-impossible surgery ahead of them to save Erica. »

Back during Season 2 of ABC’s Private Practice (Thursdays at 10/9c), I was using words such as “shrill” and “steely” to describe Dr. Charlotte King, who at the time was but the chief of staff at St. Ambrose and a sometime thorn in Oceanside’s side.
My, how she’s grown.
“Who would have thought this would have been where Charlotte would go?” KaDee Strickland muses as she surveys her current storyline, in which Charlotte is helping husband Cooper (played by Paul Adelstein) deal with the life-threatening illness of his newly discovered son’s baby mama, Erica (A.J. Langer). “There »
