With two seasons of True Detective under his belt, Nic Pizzolatto is trying his damnedest to break into the feature film side of Hollywood. While he co-wrote this fall’s The Magnificent Seven remake, his longest-developing project is his own adaptation of his 2010 novel Galveston. Once set to be in the hands of Armadillo helmer Janus Metz with Matthias Schoenarts leading, a new creative team has now come on board.

Andrés Waissbluth’s "Elephant, the Horse" is inspired by the lives of Lalo and Roberto Parra. 80’, Chile/Mexico/Colombia, 2016. World Premiere.
Lalo wants nothing more than to grow up to be a valiant adventurer, just like his grandfather was. Grandpa who is on his deathbed—for the third time— charges Lalo and his brother Roberto with a task of great importance: the boys must promise to look after Grandpa’s beloved horse Elephant, that has been abducted by a traveling circus. Lalo and Roberto set out to rescue Elephant, but wind up involved in an even bigger quest than either could have imagined. Blending live-action with an alluring animation style that resembles a comic book come to life, “Elephant, the Horse” is fun, suspenseful, and light-hearted even when dealing with more serious plot developments. Chilean-American director Andrés Waissbluth’s delightful third feature fuses fantasy with stories taken from the childhoods of Lalo and Roberto Parra, the brothers of Chile’s legendary singer Violeta Parra.

“Caroline and the Magic Potion” is Virginia Curiá’s feature debut. Brazil/Spain, 78’, 2015. Isa: Latido. USA: Viva.
Everyone in the neighborhood turns to Caroline’s grandmother for sure-fire home remedies. But for Caroline, being a healer’s apprentice, learning about what cream to apply to what allergy, can get dull. Caroline is a restless girl. She would rather fly through the air than fiddle with herbs—and she gets her chance to do just that when she discovers a magic potion amongst her granny’s cache of cures. As it happens, Caroline starts to master her new power just in time: a nefarious cosmetic company has kidnapped Granny with the hope of stealing her recipes. With her umbrella-turned-flying broomstick and mischievous pet cat in tow, Caroline is determined to come to the rescue. Fun, witty and bursting with surprises, “Caroline and the Magic Potion” is an animated adventure set in a rapidly changing world, where witchy powers and high-tech gizmos come into conflict, but in the end it’s a combination of smarts, courage and love that provide our heroine with her best chance at defeating her foes. “Caroline and the Magic Potion” is Galician Virginia Curiá’s feature debut.

Nominated for Best Animated Feature Film at the 88th Academy Awards, Alê Abreu’s “Boy & the World” will be screened at Iff Panama’s Family Corner. This dialogue-free, picaresque film about a country boy searching for his father fuses endearingly primitive, crayon-like visual elements with highly sophisticated imagery. Equal parts dread and wonder, Alê Abreu’s powerful feature warns against the corruption and contamination that threaten our world while retaining a stubborn belief in some fundamental goodness that can keep our hope alive.

Can you believe it? Mel Gibson's Braveheart premiered 20 years ago today in the Us, fast becoming a box office hit, a multi-Oscar winner and genuine pop culture phenomenon.
To celebrate the '90s classic's big birthday, we dive into Braveheart trivia to find out who nearly took on the role of William Wallace, the role originally earmarked for Sean Connery and which celebs count the Gibson flick among their all-time favourites.
1. Randall Wallace came up with the idea for the film while on holiday in Scotland in 1983. Visiting Edinburgh Castle, he asked a tour guide to tell him the story behind the statues of William Wallace and Robert the Bruce. The guide did just that, and the rest is movie history!
2. Terry Gilliam turned down the chance to direct Braveheart after being offered the role while he was working with Gibson on an abandoned film version of A Tale of Two Cities.

Lets start with a little disclaimer, shall we?
We’re big, big Mark Hunt fans. Love the guy. He can really do no wrong. He always puts on a show, was the first man to knock out Big Country in the Ufc, and is the promotion’s number one all time comeback story. Just a fantastic turnaround tale, going from losing six straight fights to earning title relevancy, and having one of the best heavyweight bouts of all time in 2013 with Antonio Silva.
Still, when we heard Hunt was granted an interim title shot against Fabricio Werdum at Ufc 180 in November, thanks to an injury to the frequently laid up champ Cain Velasquez, we were worried: Werdum in no easy task, and has been on a tear since his return to the Ufc. We’d love to see Hunt win gold, as it would top off a storybook career,...

Bellator
It’s a head to head battle between the world’s two premiere Mma promotions this Friday as Bellator 123 goes head-to-head with Ufc Fight Night 50.
While that might look like a squash match at first glance, it’s important to get perspective. One, Ufc Fight Night 50 is a Fight Pass event in North America, meaning the TV audience that would tune in in droves to see the likes of Alistair Overeem, Matt Mitrione, Joe Lauzon, Gregard Mousasi, and Ronaldo Souza just won’t be there. It’s a hardcore fans only event. Second, Bellator’s viewers are Spike TV loyalists, and they always tend to tune in. Third, Bellator has stacked this card with some of their best: Featherweight champion Pat Curran, Cheick Kongo, Lavar Johnson, King Mo, and making his Bellator debut, Tna wrestling Bobby Lashley.

2 So sorry for the years of heartless Conservative governments that you never voted for that ripped the heart out of the Scottish mining, steel and shipbuilding industries, butchered public services and imposed an unwonted, dismal neo-liberal ethos on a land to which such a callous political and economic philosophy was inimical.

Elizabeth McGovern will perform at the Edinburgh Fringe with her folk rock band Sadie and The Hotheads later this month.
The group is fronted by McGovern, who is best known for playing Countess of Grantham Cora in TV period drama Downton Abbey.
"Your 'Sadie' is that thing inside you which makes you unique. Everyone has it," said McGovern of her group's name.
"I am in awe of the musicians on this project. They create magic out of thin air! Time and time again, on whatever drafty stage or pub we happened to be in.
"With good humour and joy in their art, they begin to play. It gives me faith. That it's all worth it, for its own sake. For the joy. This is what I hope we can convey."
Sadie and The Hotheads play the New Town Theatre from August 17-25 at 11.45pm. Tickets are priced at £12/£10.

Park Chan-wook's Stoker is another showcase for the former grebo-rocker turned moody soundtrack specialist
Hollywood discovered Clint Mansell in 2010, the year he turned 47. Black Swan, director Darren Aronofsky's psychodrama of a ballerina driven to the brink of sanity, was every bit the outlier its title suggested, vaulting its $13m budget to take more than $300m worldwide. Key to the film's ratcheting tension was Mansell's score, which radically reworked Tchaikovsky's famous ballet. "Motörhead," wrote the Guardian's Peter Bradshaw, "could not have played the Swan Lake theme any louder than this." Mansell received a Grammy nomination for Best Film Score, only to lose out to The King's Speech.
Mansell and Aronofsky have shared a fruitful creative relationship since the latter's directorial debut, 1996's Pi, but Black Swan's startling numbers meant that suddenly, all sorts of offers were on the table. It was then that Clint Mansell decided to take a bit of time off.

WWE have signed indie wrestler “Big Country” Jody Kristofferson, son of famous actor and musician Kris Kristofferson, to a developmental deal.
Triple H was impressed by Kristofferson at a tryout session a few months back against Brodus Clay but didn’t sign him up until he found out who his father was and then invited him to SummerSlam to talk. Either Triple H is a big Kris Kristofferson fan or more likely Hhh has got excited about the marketing potential of Jody’s heritage. There’s nothing quite like the WWE and their love for second or third generation superstars, which in this case extends to the family tree of famous people from other media. Also it should be noted Triple H worked with Kris Kristofferson in the movie Blade Trinity (2004).
The word is the deal for Jody has been in place for a while but WWE wanted to keep it quiet.

The date : August 19th – 21st | The place: Chelmsford, Essex | The event : V Festival 2011
Why is V Festival such an amazing music festival, when you have the likes of Glastonbury, Reading, Leeds, Global Gathering, Latitude, and Isle Of Wight – to name but a few? The answer is simple – V Festival brings with it a different type of crowd. The people, who go to V, are sexy, happy, die-hard regulars, who think of V as their annual place of pilgrimage!
Some attendees claim that V is their one ‘must go to’ event, for which they spend hours before tickets go on sale making sure that they are in front of their computer screens, or on the phone with their faithful credit/debit card at the ready, and finger hovering over the ‘buy’ button, so that they don’t miss out on the one social event of the year which will...

After a long absence, director Bob Connolly returns with Mrs. Carey’s Concert. Miguel Gonzalez spoke with him about his life in documentary.
Connolly was not the type of child that dreamt of working on TV or film. When he dropped out of an Arts Law degree in 1964, he joined the ABC as a cadet journalist. He did “reasonably well” and ended up doing a stint in New York. When he returned in 1968, he joined a current affairs program, first as an assistant producer, and ultimately working as an on camera reporter.
“But I was hopeless at the studio, like a stunned mullet, terrified of live stuff. My brain used to go blank!” he admitted.
So Connolly was sent to work on the show’s “Sunday stories”, doing five-minute reports until, three years later, he was asked to do a half-hour story for the documentary series A Big Country. It was his first observational work,...

Spoiler alert! Your enjoyment of the online discussion about Peter Bradshaw's review of Biutiful may be compromised if you read on. And, some readers said, your enjoyment of the film might have been compromised if you read his review: particularly his revelation of "an unexpected moment: a real coup" during the movie (let us not describe the exact nature of the coup). "You have just spoiled a major dramatic moment in the movie," siforcat sighed. "Unexpected? Not for anyone who reads this who hasn't seen the film yet, it isn't," added stevekain. So, Bradshaw, defend yourself. "I don't think it is a spoiler," Peter says. "But there is an ongoing debate about how a critic is expected to engage with narrative and to talk about the things he/she genuinely – and in this case passionately – believes are centrally important to the movie.

Justin Bieber will be trading his Yankees cap for a Stetson.
The pop star will be going country strong with Rascal Flatts for his next studio collaboration.
"I love @RascalFlatts and Im honored that they are making music with me," reads his Sunday, Dec. 19 tweet.
The respect is mutual.
"[Justin] asked us to do a duet with him on his next record," Rascal Flatts lead singer Gary LeVox tells Wsix's Big Country. "It's actually a really good song. The kid is really talented. He plays five or six different instruments really well."
The collaboration was Bieber's idea, and he's actually a country music fan. Back in August, he reportedly sang the first verse of Alan Jackson's "Chattahoochee" in Nashville while he was in town for a concert at the Bridgestone Arena.
