Poltergeist Remake: First Trailer Offers Homage And Jump Scares

5 February 2015 2:31 PM, PST | Twitch | See recent Twitch news »

The way a horror movie is constructed and paced has changed a lot from 1982 to 2015. Much like the 2013 Carrie remake, it all comes down to whether the pace of editing and easy reliance on jump-scares can replace the sweet creepiness (and, admittedly on my part, nostalgia) of the Tobe Hooper original.Sam Raimi's Ghost House Pictures is producing the do-over, which stars Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt, Jared Harris and Jane Adams along with two really cute kids. City of Ember's Gil Kenan directs.Yes, the remake keeps the clown that traumatized the childhood of anyone born in the mid 1970s, but it begs the question of whether modern television sets can even 'snow-out' anymore. I thought they just drop to a blank blue screen with...

'Poltergeist' International Trailer Has All-New Footage

5 February 2015 1:54 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Earlier this morning, MGM and Fox released the first trailer for their scary new remake of Poltergeist. And it was met with a warm reception, even by longtime fans of the original who refuse to believe that this reboot is neccessary. A second trailer has come online, which is meant for international audiences. It has more than enough new footage to make it a worthwhile watch, and even sheds new light on some of the family dynamic inside the Bowen house.

Legendary filmmaker and producer Sam Raimi ("Spider-Man, Evil Dead, The Grudge) and director Gil Kenan (Monster House) are behind this attempt to recapture lightening in a bottle, taking over for producer Steven Spielberg and director Tobe Hooper. Much like their iconic 1982 effort, this new version follows the classic tale of a family whose suburban home is haunted by evil forces. They’re Here…Again. Poltergeist Remake Poster & Trailer Debuts!

5 February 2015 12:31 PM, PST | iconsoffright.com | See recent Icons of Fright news »

Tobe Hooper’s (or Steven Spielberg’s, depending on if you follow credit or fact) Poltergeist was and is a highly effective, horror masterpiece. I recently revisited the film and found that even during the day, it’s still scary as ever and had me corner checking my own apartment. More than that is the film’s fully realized family dynamic. You absolutely care for these characters well being, and when the ghosts come out to play, the fear is heightened.

Like all horror films more than 10 years old, Hollywood declares a remake is in order, and the time has come for Poltergeist. There’s a glimmer of hope for this however in the form of producer Sam Raimi and director Gil Kenan (the scary-lite animated Monster House). The cast is peppered with the likes of the always dependable Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt, Jane Adams, and Jared Harris subbing for »

Poltergeist Remake Trailers Hit!

5 February 2015 10:05 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

20th Century Fox

Incredible as some cynics might find it, the screenwriter of the new Poltergeist movie has a Pulitzer prize. Actually, this is starting to seem like a habit for producer Sam Raimi. He booked Pultitzer-winning Michael Chabon for Spider-Man 2 and has now worked with also-Pulitzer-winning David Lindsay-Abaire on both Oz the Great and Powerful and Poltergeist.

Perhaps more meaningfully, Lindsay-Abaire also wrote Rabbit Hole, a brilliant play – and later, film – about a suburban couple tormented by the loss of a child. Some of the same material, though definitely in a different genre and at a different register, comes around again in Poltergeist.

Here’s the first two trailers for the film, showing the new set-up, which is extremely similar to the old set-up. But this is apparently more a sequel than a remake, however – though, admittedly this is what they also said about the new Evil Dead »

First Full-Length Trailer For Poltergeist Reboot Looms Online

5 February 2015 9:19 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

If yesterday’s array of creepy, neon-blue images were the foreboding appetizer for Poltergeist, then today’s full-length trailer is the blood-curdling main course.

Coming by way of The Playlist, the footage gives us our first real look at Gil Kenan’s revisionist take on Tobe Hooper’s 1982 cult classic. In it, we see Sam Rockwell and Rosemarie DeWitt star as a young couple moving into their humble new abode, only to discover that the entire estate was built upon an ancient cemetery. Soon thereafter, their daughter is abducted by a group of malevolent spirits, forcing the two to turn to a supernatural researcher and clairvoyant (Jared Harris) for aid.

Sounds familiar? It should. Poltergeist was riding the crest of a horrific wave when it debuted twenty-three years ago, and in many ways helped establish the horror conventions that have become so hackneyed through repetition. That said, from what we gather, »

The 'Poltergeist' Trailer Is Here to Scare You (Video)

5 February 2015 7:30 AM, PST | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

The first trailer for the "Poltergeist" reboot is here, and just like the 1982 original, the flick looks scary as hell.

As the clip begins, we're introduced to the Bowen family, who just bought a new house. Unfortunately for them, it's situated on a cemetery, and the spirits within are none too pleased about the new residents.

Naturally, they start possessing the Bowens' young daughter, Maddie (Kennedi Clements), eventually stealing her away and wreaking havoc on the rest of the family. The Bowens bring in a paranormal investigator (Jared Harris) to help them take back their house and their daughter, though the man warns them that they've got a lot of work to do.

"They already know what scares you," Harris's character says of the spirits. Cue a shot of a creepy clown doll. (The spirits, evidently, also know what scares moviegoers.)

"Poltergeist" also stars Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt, Saxon Sharbino, »
