New trailer & poster for The CW’s ‘Black Lightning’

The CW have released a new trailer for their latest superhero show, Black Lightning. Yet despite this being another CW superhero show, don’t get too excited about seeing the character crossover with the rest of the networks DC line-up. Said network chief Mark Pedowitz: “we do not aim to do a five-way crossover. Black Lightning, at this time, is not part of the Arrowverse. It is a separate situation.” Booooooo!!

Black Lightning gets a premiere date, takes DC’s Legends of Tomorrow’s time slot

The CW has revealed the series premiere date for its latest DC Comics adaptation Black Lightning which is set to air on January 16th at 9Pm, taking the place of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow which will be on a midseason break until February.

Presumably, Legends will then find itself in a new time slot upon its return, at which point – with Supergirl, The Flash and Arrow – The CW will have five DC superhero shows airing weekly.

Chantal Thuy to play Grace Choi in The CW’s Black Lightning

Variety is reporting that Chantal Thuy (Pretty Little Liars) has joined the cast of The CW’s newest DC superhero show Black Lightning.

Thuy is set for the recurring role of Grace Choi, a character created by Judd Winick and Tom Raney, who made her first comic booko appearance in Outsiders #1 in 2003.

In the show, Grace is described as “a bartender who becomes the love interest of Anissa Pierce (Nafessa Williams). Grace is a comic book fan who befriends Anissa while she is coming to terms with her abilities and becomes Anissa’s first confidant about the struggles and challenges of having abilities.”

Fear The Walking Dead Actress Edwina Findley Lands Recurring Role On Black Lightning

The cast of The CW’s Black Lightning series has grown by one today, as Deadline brings word that Edwina Findley has secured a recurring role opposite Cress Williams.

Best known for her involvement in AMC’s companion series, Fear The Walking Dead, Findley will play the part of Tori, the “beautiful and cunning younger sister to Tobias Whale (Marvin ‘Krondon’ Jones III). Tori’s charming nature is just a facade as she can be just as deadly as Tobias, an exciting threat to the people of Freeland.”

Salim Akil, showrunner and executive producer on Black Lightning, is clearly a big fan of Findley’s casting, telling Deadline that “Edwina is a fantastic talent, and I am so excited she is joining us.”

Anchored by Jefferson Pierce (Williams), Black Lightning tells the tale of a retired crime-fighter who is unknowingly thrust back into the spotlight as a wanted vigilante.

Jill Scott cast as DC villain Lady Eve in Black Lightning

The CW’s new superhero show Black Lightning has added Grammy Award-winning singer and actress Jill Scott to its cast in the role of the DC villain Lady Eve.

Deadline reports that the show’s incarnation of the character “will be the bridge between Tobias Whale (Marvin “Krondon” Jones III) and a secret group of corrupt leaders. Always a consummate professional, Lady Eve presents herself in Freeland as the owner of a funeral parlor, but quickly becomes an adversary to Black Lightning.”

Scott’s previous credits include Why Did I Get Married, Steel Magnolias, and guest turns on Fringe and Being Mary Jane, while she also lent her voice to Storm in Bet’s 2010 Black Panther animated series.

Krondon cast as Black Lightning’s villain Tobias Whale

The CW’s latest show in the Arrowverse has found its villain for Black Lightning. Rapper Krondon, whose real name is Marvin Jones III, has been cast as the villainous Tobias Whale in the series.

Whale is an African-American who suffers from albinism and is the leader of the street gang, The 100, Freeland’s most powerful gang. Tobias was formerly a politician, rising up the ranks of local government through corrupt and illegal means until he was brought down by Alvin Pierce, Jefferson Pierce/Black Lightning’s father. In retaliation, Tobias murdered Alvin and went into exile, secretly rebuilding his empire and becoming the leader of the feared gang. When Jefferson becomes Black Lightning once again, it forces Whale to return as well in a desire for revenge against Black Lightning.

“I was excited about Krondon when I saw his audition. He’s going to make a great Tobias,” executive producer Salim Akil said.
