Karan Johar to be a part of Toronto International Film Festival

Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna (Kank) was screened at Toronto International Film Festival (Tiff) and a decade later Karan Johar will be a part of special talk with the festival's co-director Cameron Bailey. An insider says that Karan Johar will be a part of the 'In Conversation With' segment at Tiff which is an on stage conversation with leaders in the film industry and beyond usually only a select few are invited to participate in this segment. This year Karan will be joined by the likes of Hollywood star Mark Wahlberg, French actor Isabelle Huppert, Brazilian actor Sonia Braga, and Palestinian film-maker and actor Hiam Abbass, among others. Jóhann Jóhannsson to score Blade Runner sequel

Iceland Monitor is reporting that Academy Award-winning composer Jóhann Jóhannsson (The Theory of Everything) is set to score the upcoming Blade Runner sequel, having previously collaborated with director Denis Villeneuve on Prisoners, Sicario and the upcoming Arrival.

The as-yet-untitled follow-up to Ridley Scott’s sci-fi classic is based upon a script by original scribe Hampton Fancher and Michael Green (Green Lantern), with Harrison Ford reprising the role of Rick Deckard alongside new additions Ryan Gosling (The Nice Guys), Robin Wright (House of Cards), Jared Leto (Suicide Squad), Carla Juri (Morris From America), Ana de Armas (Knock Knock), Dave Bautista (Spectre), Mackenzie Davis (The Martian), Barkhad Abdi (Captain Phillips), David Dastmalchian (Ant-Man), Hiam Abbass (Munich), Sylvia Hoeks (Tirza) and Lennie James (The Walking Dead).

The Blade Runner sequel is set for release on October 6th 2017.

Programmers at the Toronto International Film Festival (Tiff) announced that Isabelle Huppert, Kunle Afolayan and Genevieve Nnaji and Mark Wahlberg will be among the eight participants in the In Conversation With… series.

Moonlight, festival closing night screening The Edge Of Seventeen, Noces and Handsome Devil take their place in the youth-oriented Next Wave strand, while Discovery selections include The Empty Box, Godless, Hunting Flies and The Red Turtle.

A five-strong roster of virtual reality work brings new work from Canadian superstars Felix & Paul as well as Memesys Culture Lab in India.

Overall 397 films will play at the festival from September 8-18, comprising 296 features and 101 shorts, compared to 287 and 110 last year.

Festival organisers received 6,933 submissions (6,118 in 2015), of which 1,240 came from Canada (1,225) and the 5,693 balance from the rest of the world (4,893).

For the third consecutive year, King Street will close to traffic between Peter and University Streets over opening weekend from September 8-11.

Tiff 2016 Announces Discovery Lineup, ‘In Conversation With…’ Guests, Vr Offerings and Much More

Next month’s Toronto International Film Festival has nearly completed its lineup announcements, and each one is more impressive than the last. Today’s Tiff picks feature a number of slate additions for sections as varied as the forward-focused Discovery, their burgeoning Pop Vr section and even a handful of last minute additions to the Tiff Docs list. New titles of note that have just been announced include the Cannes hit “The Red Turtle,” Wayne Roberts’ “Katie Says Goodbye” and the well-regarded “Sand Storm,” all of which will screen as part of Discovery.

There aren't very many major characters in the first Blade Runner. You've got Harrison Ford as the replicant hunter, Deckard, and then a small handful of people, most of whom don't survive the movie very long. As massive as Ridley Scott's movie is in its scope, it's actually a rather small story. Fresh from his role as The Joker in Suicide Squad, Jared Leto has now signed on to the cast of the upcoming Blade Runner sequel, with producers Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson stating that the Oscar winner will “create a truly memorable, never before seen character.”

Jared Leto joins 'Blade Runner' sequel

Alcon Entertainment said on Thursday the Oscar-winning actor and star of Suicide Squad has rounded out the casting on Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming sci-fi.

Leto joins Harrison Ford reprising his role as Rick Deckard, alongside Ryan Gosling and Robin Wright on the project, a sequel to Ridley Scott’s 1982 modern classic that takes place several decades after events in the original.

While Alcon is keeping the storyline under wraps top brass said Leto would create “a truly memorable, never-before-seen character.”

The cast includes Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Carla Juri, Mackenzie Davis, Barkhad Abdi, David Dastmalchian, Hiam Abbass, Lennie James and Dave Bautista.

It is understood Villeneuve will begin shooting later this year. His latest film Arrival starring Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner will receive its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival next month.

Warner Bros will distribute in North America on October 6, 2017, while Sony Pictures Releasing International will distribute in remaining global territories.

Variety is reporting that The Walking Dead star Lennie James is in talks with Alcon Entertainment to join the cast of the forthcoming Blade Runner sequel, which is being directed by Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners, Sicario).

The first official image from the upcoming Blade Runner sequel, which is still officially untitled, has been released by Warner Brothers/ Sony Pictures.

Denis Villeneuve (SicarioPrisoners) is directing and principal photography is scheduled to begin this month.  The film will be released by Warner Bros. in North America and Sony Pictures Releasing International will distribute in all media for all overseas territories.
