The Notable Films of 2010: Part Six

27 December 2009 10:09 AM, PST | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

The Last Airbender

Opens: July 2nd 2010

Cast: Noah Ringer, Nicola Peltz, Jackson Rathbone, Dev Patel

Director: M. Night Shyamalan

Summary: A live-action film based on the Nickelodeon animated TV series. In a fantastic world where civilisation exists as four great empires, a reluctant young child sets out on a perilous journey to restore balance to a world torn apart by war.

Analysis: It has been quite the decade for M. Night Shyamalan, who started it as a household name with the label of a modern-day Hitchcock thanks to the likes of "The Sixth Sense" and "Signs". Today he's considered more of a one-trick pony and in some cases a punchline due to rampant stories of egomania run wild and a series of much derided onscreen flops like "Lady in the Water" and "The Happening".

Thus 'Airbender' marks a potential return to form for the helmer. An adaptation of the hit »

A new batch of behind-the-scenes pics from Eva Green and Ewan McGregor’s apocalyptic romance The Last Word has arrived and all I can say is: “orange sweater!”

Last week we reported that the duo would play lovers enchanted with each other as “the world falls apart.” Their romance is set to the tune of  looting and people defecating in the streets.

Along with Green and McGregor, the cast of The Last Word features Connie Nielsen, Ewan Bremmer and Stephen Dillane.

Last Word is directed by David Mackenzie with the story penned by Danish scribe Kim Fupz Aakeson.

Filming has now begun in Glasgow.

French hot stuff Eva Green will be joining the cast of Last Word, a story which revolves around a couple falling in love. <swoon> Picturing walks on the beach and violinists? Don’t. Our couple become enchanted with each other as “the world falls apart” so replace the romantic sounds of stringed instruments with looting and people defecating in the streets.

Green will play opposite Ewan McGregor with a cast featuring Connie Nielsen, Ewan Bremmer and Stephen Dillane.

Last Word will be directed by David Mackenzie with the story penned by Danish scribe Kim Fupz Aakeson.

Shooting will begin in Glasgow in October.

Eva Green is best known for playing “Bond girl” Vesper Lynd in Casino Royale and baring all in 2003’s Nc-17-rated The Dreamers.

David Mackenzie does apocalyptic romance in The Last Word

11 September 2009 3:51 PM, PDT | QuietEarth.us | See recent QuietEarth news »

Eva Green is doing more genre film (in addition to the incredible looking cloning love story Womb that we previously reported on), but this time it's apocalyptic! Starring opposite of Ewan McGregor, the film, tentatively titled The Last Word, is a story about two people who fall in love as the world begins to fall apart.

The script is penned by Kim Fupz Aakeson, who has a long history of relationship based dramas, and it's being directed by David Mackenzie who did the Excellent Hallam Foe (or retitled: Mister Foe) and the less excellent Young Adam. As it's a European film, it has the usual smorgasboard of financiers and producers, so I won't go into all that, but it is being repped by TrustNordisk who have a penchant for very good film. Shooting starts this month in Glasgow.

Ewen Bremmer, who starred with McGregor in 1996's Trainspotting, is also featured along with acclaimed British actor Stephen Dillane (Thomas Jefferson in HBO's John Adams) and Danish actress Connie Nielsen (Gladiator).  A very eclectic cast should make this a project to keep an eye on, but »
